I took a job in Ohio that starts November 3. I'm going to move there from Massachusetts, probably right at the end of October.

Which state do I vote in?

2. Please try Ohio. We've got enough blue in MA to survive.
Better yet, go door to door.

7. exactly what I'd like to do
I'm tired of not having my Presidential vote really count for anything in Massachusetts.

But I suspect I'll have to do what others have said and vote absentee in MA.

3. send in your absentee ballot before moving...?
Just a guess. That's what I'd do in CA.

4. If I were you, I'd try to vote absentee
in Massachusetts if you can. There's probably some rule in Ohio that you have to live there for a certain amount of time before you can vote there.

5. Can you get an absentee ballot from your Mass. address?
That's a really sticky situation -- you don't have enough
time to re-register in Ohio, but will absentee ballots be
available before your move?

6. Massachusetts.
The rules in Ohio (according to the State web site):

You are qualified to register to vote in Ohio if you meet all the following requirements:

1. You are a citizen of the United States.
2. You will be at least 18 years old on or before the day of the general election.
3. You will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election in which you want to vote.
4. You are not incarcerated (in prison) for a felony conviction under the laws of this state, another state or the United States.
5. You have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court.
6. You have not been permanently disfranchised for violations of the election laws. You are eligible to vote in elections conducted in your voting precinct more than 30 consecutive days after you are properly registered to vote in this state.

8. thanks, that confirms it
I figured there was something like a 30-day residency requirement for Ohio. I'll be able to get a Massachusetts absentee ballot early in October, and fill it out before I move.

9. Looks like it'll have to be Massachusetts
Since you have to live in Ohio for at least 30 days before the election, I'll have to get an absentee ballot in Massachusetts and probably send it in just before I move. You can get an absentee ballot a few weeks before the election.

I'd really like to cast my vote for President in a state that matters, but this does mean that I'll get to vote for Senator Kerry one last time.
