Help Stamp Out Hunger
Midweek reminder that the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the USPS, will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, veggies, cereal and rice on Saturday, May 10th to help families in need.

http://www.helpstampouthunger.com/

May 10th is THIS coming Saturday. Two more shopping days left.

Anybody participating?

I've got a box that I'm putting out. I bought 8 cans of tuna, bunch of rice, few cans of veggies, couple cans of chicken noodle soup...even two bags of candy, because kids have to enjoy too.

2. We participate every year.
We always throw some odds and ends in a box. The night before my daughter picks out an entire meal at the grocery store for a family. (example: one of those Banquet complete meals in a box, canned veggies, canned fruit, shelf stable bottle of juice and a complete dessert kit.) This allows her to really get involved in the event and to understand what she really is doing.
The children at church also made quite a number of packages of bean soup mix to donate (they will do so next week at the post office but it's still in conjunction with this program.)

11. thanks for posting this, fivegan!
that is my union (Branch #47), so I have seen firsthand the results from the food drive. It feeds a lot of school kids during the summer who would normally get their main meal at school. While I was speaking with an employee for a local food bank last year, she told me that "their clientele" had changed and that more working class people were needing help.

The food that anyone donates will stay in their community also, to benefit the local food banks.

Thanks to everyone for their help! O8)
