The American Family Association wants Marriott to stop showing dirty in-room movies....
Edited on Wed May-07-08 08:13 PM by marmar
Apparently AFA officials are running up really high in-room entertainment bills during those conventions.

from the AFA's website:

Sign the petition asking Marriott to drop in-room adult movies

May 8, 2008

In the next few days I, along with four other persons, will be meeting with officials from Marriott Hotels, asking them to stop offering adult movies from its hotels.

Will you help us secure 100,000 petitions to present to Marriott encouraging them to remove the movies?

If Marriott will take the lead, perhaps other hotels will do the same. Marriott is one of the largest chain of hotels in the world.

Current government and privately conducted studies conclusively prove that the explosion of pornography is having a negative effect on our society.

Take Action!
Sign the petition asking Marriott to stop offering in-room adult movies.
Forward this e-mail to friends and family and ask them to sign it.
The petition presented to Marriott will contain only your name and state.

Act quickly as time is of importance.

1. looks like AFA is having yet another pledge drive. Do they know who Multiple Choice Mitt
was named after?

I would love to see the detailed hotel bills from the Culture warriors over at afa.

5. I'm willing to bet a lot of those assholes from the AFA...
spend a lot of money on in-room adult movies.

Those assholes should mind their own fucking business. If I want to watch porn in my hotel room, that's my business, not theirs.

7. It'll never happen.
Hotels make tons of money from these things. Mariott is a public corporation, and deliberately undermining the companies cash value for "moral" reasons would generate hundreds of shareholder suits. They'll nod vigorously and chat nicely with the AFA reps, and may even promise to "research the situation", but they'll never actually do anything.

Which is a good thing. Good porn is one of the few things that makes those long business trips bearable

9. Mariott is probably only humoring them.
I have no doubt that they intend to do absolutely nothing about this.

8. It's because they know they can't control their own impulses
So they want Marriot to do it for them.

"PLEASE don't tempt us with these deliciously sinful movie offerings!"

11. "and we will also ask Marriott
to stop leaving tissues, and those little bottles of hand lotion, in the rooms. absolutely NO priapic activity or suggestion thereof should occur in a Marriott hotel!"

i think Pastor Donald should take a look at some of those investigative shows, where they use something like Luminol to show you how much j!zz is just about EVERYWHERE in your average hotel room.

Something else to give Don Wildmon an aneurysm.

22. Yep, that's where I picked up a copy several years ago.
And, there were a few articles during the GOP campaign that mentioned Romney's ties to Marriott porn.

Romney's Ties to Marriott's Porn and Mormonism Could Pose Problem for Iowa Social Conservatives

With hopes of gaining the support of influential social conservatives for his presidential campaign, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney regularly denounces the “cesspool” of pornography on the campaign trail. But recently, those would be supporters have been grumbling that Romney did not do enough to shut down hardcore movie options in Marriott hotels while he was on the company’s board for nearly a decade.

Iowa social conservatives, who play a large role in determining the winner of the Iowa caucuses, said Romney’s ties to pornography could be a problem for his campaign. And his involvement with Marriott also brings his Mormon faith back into the spotlight, another potential obstacle to recruiting evangelical Christians.

18. Not in favor of them;
what adults want to watch is their business.

But I wish the hotels would be a bit more careful. Once checked into some motel, went to the afternoon session of whatever meeting I was attending, and returned to my room before dinner. Turned on the tv, and most of the porn channels were enabled. Didn't request it, didn't want it. Now, I was alone and was just annoyed with the hotel, but if I had had kids, I would have gone ballistic.

Back in 2004 we had a few-month-old baby crawling around, and basic cable. HBO decided to have a "free HBO weekend", and when I was flipping through the channels I ran across HBO broadcasting an orgy, a bunch of men and women on mats having sex. No subscription, no request needed, free porn for whoever had basic cable. My wife decreed the tv was history. To this day, we watch PBS and, recently, for the kid (now years old) Qubo.

19. What if there were a war movie on?
Or a gangster movie with lots of people getting killed in nasty ways?

Would you have "gone ballistic" then?

Or would it only be for sex?

Are you saying they have to watch something they don't want to watch?
