WASHINGTON - Rep. Vito Fossella of New York has acknowledged fathering a 3-year-old daughter with a woman outside his marriage.

In a statement Thursday Fossella said he is "truly sorry" for the pain he has caused his loved ones.

Fossella's private life came under scrutiny after he was arrested for drunk driving last week in suburban Virginia. He has a court date next week, and could face jail time if convicted. Fossella told police at the time of his arrest that he was going to see his daughter in the area.

Staten Island Rep. Breaks News Days After Being Arrested On Drunk Driving Charges
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Staten Island Rep. Vito Fossella admitted Thursday to fathering a 3-year-old daughter with woman outside his marriage, CBS 2 has learned.

In a statement released three days before Mother's Day, Fossella said:

"I have had a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a three year old daughter.

"My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry.

"While I understand that there will be many questions, including those about my political future, making any political decisions right now are furthest from my mind.

2. I don't see any blatant mention of his party, so I am guessing he is a Republican?
No time to read the article and find out.

11. You have deciphered the rules correctly...
...if it's a Democrat caught doing something illegal/immoral/unethical, party affiliation will be noted right up front. If on the other hand it is a Republican, party affiliation will be mentioned in passing near the end of the article, if at all.

BTW I am not being even slightly sarcastic, I have seen this since I started looking into the Philip Giordano (sp?) case (the Republican mayor of a city in Connecticut who was caught soliciting young girls for sex acts -- the girls were 8 and 10 years old at the time). When the articles came out about it, there were some very interesting things about the reportage: (1) his party affiliation was *never* mentioned -- not once in the articles that I read. I had to go dig up the information (it wasn't hard -- you'd think a reporter could have done it). (2) this story had all of the usual elements that would make it a blockbuster -- sex, corruption, arrogance, hubris -- and yet, reporting was limited mostly to the Connecticut media, with a few in-passing articles in national media, printed anywhere but on the front pages of the national newspapers. So after that I started watching things like this in general, and yes, the party affiliation thing is not imaginary, it is all too real.

3. Just for once
I want to hear someone say they're sorry they got caught. Because thats clearly the case. If he was REALLY sorry he would have admitted it as soon as it happened.

9. I think it's the way their system is set up...
whenever they broadcast a negative story, their computer is programmed to automatically default to putting a (D) after their name.

10. He's done.
The DUI, Baby Daddy thing and his wife is likely to give him the heave-ho over the matter means this "family values" guy is toast. I'm sure Faux will list him as a Democrat.
