Apparently the picture of Hitler right behind him didn't arouse suspicion of Republican candidate
(Thought it was Charlie Chaplin ?)

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/05/nazi_event_speaker_loses_indy.html

Tony Zirkle, who spoke at an Adolf Hitler birthday party last month on how prostitution and pornography impact white women, came in third place in Indiana's 2nd Congressional District Republican primary yesterday. Fighting prostitution and porn is a major plank in Zirkle's platform.

He has said that he will speak to any group who invites him, but he dodged questions from an Indiana paper asking whether he was a white supremacist sympathizer.

Washington Post columnist Al Kamen has the story:

Tough news last night in the closely watched Republican primary in Indiana's 2nd Congressional District.

Loop favorite Tony Zirkle, who had lost two primaries to former congressman Chris Chocola-- albeit with 30 percent of the vote against incumbent Chocola in 2006 -- was soundly defeated.

Zirkle, whose top campaign issue is opposition to pornography and prostitution, finished a distant third behind Goshen, Ind., businessman and GOP establishment candidate Luke Puckett and Culver, Ind., newspaper delivery man Joseph Roush. Puckett won with 48 percent of the vote; Zirkle drew 16 percent.

Unclear why he did so badly this time. Maybe it was that outreach effort April 20 when he spoke at an Adolf Hitler birthday celebration sponsored by the National Socialist Workers Party, also known as the Nazis. snip

He reportedly also told a local radio station he didn't think all the 50 or so people at the party were necessarily Nazis, because the group's name isn't "Nazi" but National Socialist Workers Party. Apparently clues such as the large swastikas or that picture of der Fuehrer right behind him didn't arouse suspicion. (Thought it was Charlie Chaplin ?)

2. What I find mind boggling
is this piece of work went to the US Naval Academy, graduated from Georgetown University and almost completed a Masters of Divinity Degree from Andrews University and received his law degree from Indiana University. What a f**king waste of an education.

5. oh please, he's lying his ass off
in the hopes that people will be gullible enough to believe him.

After all, embracing Nazism & Hitler isn't really a far stretch for many Republicans these days.

8. You have to wonder why he somehow
wasn't discovered and possibly weeded out. Of course, it is possible that his attitude was latent.

9. It was probably the porn issue that did him in.
Those red-meat IN working class males are not gonna give up Jenna Jameson for a freaking Nazi, no matter how much they may agree on matters of race. It's just Un-Amurrican.

10. Maybe he thought it was a harmless role playing game?
Sort of like motor racing's FIA president Max Mosley and his S&M prostitutes dressed as Nazis.

I really don't ever want to know what Zirkle is hiding in his closet, but I suspect it has a lot to do with prostitutes and pornography.
