Since spouses are always dragged out before the media in American politics and since Cindy McCain is actively participating in her husband's campaign, I would say that it's all fair game and the people should demand to see her records. She's appearing with her husband and the two of them are trying to portray a nice image of a family, husband and wife. The integrity of each one has been placed at issue. If McCain didn't raise the issue of family values or of marriage and didn't drag his family members into the picture, then it would be different. But I don't see how someone intimately involved in her husband's campaign can avoid having to reveal everything about herself. If she's been taking outrageous deductions on her income taxes then I think it's something we need to know. We're not in Europe, where spouses always remain in the background, out of the camera's eye and the candidates don't make their family life an issue.
