What is McCain's connection to Abu Ghraib?
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:15 AM by ColbertWatcher
He knew torture first hand, yet he switched his vote and personal conviction such that it followed his party's current policy, which contradicted his own.

No one could understand why he went against his own convictions or what influences were behind his sudden and inexplicable shift away from his convictions.

But, there it was, John McCain, war hero and POW who was tortured for 5 1/2 years in Vietnam was no longer against torture.

That's the background. So, I'm wandering around the internets with the TV tuned to Robert Greewald's documentary http://iraqforsale.org/index.php">Iraq For Sale:The War Profiteers. And someone from the TV said the one of the contractors responsible for the interrogations at Abu Ghraib, http://iraqforsale.org/caci.php">CACI were hired from Arizona!

I stop surfing and listen to the TV to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. Then, I ask google to help me find something about CACI and Arizona.

I found a Common Dreams article, Meet the New Interrogators: Lockheed Martin, which said:
"The issue of private contractors in interrogation did not come to light until mid-2004, when a military investigation revealed that several interrogators at the Abu Ghraib prison were civilian employees of CACI. The contract to the Virginia-based company was also issued by the Department of Interior's Sierra Vista, Arizona office, located a stone's throw from the headquarters of the Army's main interrogation school."

That's not much of a connection. But, hey this is the internets and I'm not a reporter, so I go snooping some more.

I find out that the lobbyist McCain was connected to by the New York Times, Vicky Iseman, worked for the firm, Alcalde & Fay, and they used to do work for CACI.

My question is: did McCain somehow profit from torture at Abu Ghraib through CACI?

2. I know there are a lot of gaps, but...
...it seems McCain's problems seem to be stemming from his lobbyist connections:

Keating

telecom immunity

and possibly Abu Ghraib.

I hope other DUers can help find more information in his voting record, which may give us more clues about more possible irregularities.

We know he's not as straight a talker as he wants everyone to think he is, we just have to find the proof of it. We know the GOP-controlled media isn't going to.

3. Good digging.
Very Interesting. McCain seems to be more than willing to sell out his convictions and his so called "straight talk" for money and power.

4. Well, I've only scraped the surface.
More digging is needed. But, I find it beyond coincidental that he has so many lobbyists working for his campaign and some of the issues for which he has deep convictions can suddenly change over night to benefit his party's masters.

Something fishy is going on with Mr. So-called "Straight Talker"

5. Vicky's name seems to have fallen off the radar .. and there
are still LOTS of questions unanswered. McCain is owned, lock stock & barrel by lobbyists. He is nothing more than a creature created by K Street & Cindyrella.. and WE NEED TO SEE HER BOOKS!!

I'm sure the corporate media will start to examine this guy someday...

6. Well, if Rev. Wright can be fair game...
...so can McCain's wife.

He's been married to her for 28 years (since 1980), was screwing around with her for a bit before that and has admitted using her company's plane for campaigning.

Sounds fair game to me.
