Can The Dems Beat Rupert Murdoch - The Next Silvio Berlusconi?
Edited on Sat May-10-08 10:39 PM by Median Democrat
The Democratic primaries are coming to an end, and now that the Democratic nominee may be chosen soon, it is time to ask, can either Hillary or Barrack beat Rupert Murdoch? Notice I don't say John McCain, because anyone who has watched Fox News knows that they often invent their own talking points, in addition to reading the ones dictated by Rove and Co. such as the 24 hour Ayers and Wright a-thon right before last Tuesday's primaries. However, while many of us have accuessed Fox of simply being a mouth-piece for the GOP, to what extent does it operate in reverse?

News Corp has steadily pursued a strategy of expansion and also has pushed for relaxation of restrictions on media ownership. Recently, News Corp has pursued merger talks with Yahoo. Acquired Direct TV. Acquired the Wall Street Journal. Attempted to acquire News Day. News Corp has been on a buying binge with little resistance from the Federal Government.

Of course, Fox news provides the GOP with political cover for other pro-corporate stances such as tax cuts, high deficits, and minimal regulation, but in return what does Fox get? Also, aside from the purely economic goal of expanding News Corp's control, to what extent is Rupert Murdoch actively seeking political power? Does Ruper Murdoch ultimately desire to effectively control and dictate U.S. policy?

In other words, is Rupert Murdoch seeking to replicate the influence and power of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi?

If so, then do either Hillary or Barrack stand a chance against an opponent who has an unlimited campaign budget? Fox News is relentless in its attempts to influence the Democratic Party primary, as well as its attacks on whoever is leading in the Democratic primaries. Do the American people stand a chance of getting the truth when one of the major networks so aggresively attempts to support a candidate that will support News Corp's expansion?
