For Sapphire Blue: "I Wonder What Would Happen to this World"
Oh if a man tried
to take his time on Earth
and prove before he died
what one man's life could be worth,
I wonder what would happen to this world?

- Harry Chapin

I miss you, friend. Thank you for fighting for the least of us. Rest easy.

4. Nice of you to share that with us.

Sapphire has a lot in common with Harry, and no doubt, what he expresses in those lyrics.

9. It's really nice to see threads like this posted and kicked. Because I found out about it late, also
I'm glad I saw the notices. Otherwise I would have wondered, and missed her just the same.

People do slide in and out of here a lot, and I know there will be many who appreciated her posts and will be wondering what happened to her.

We need to keep her quest alive.

10. I'm going to be eating lunch with my mom, 2 aunts and my grandmother soon.
They will all each get an extra hug today. :( I feel like someone kicked me in the gut.

12. Yeah, I know. I console myself by knowing she's not in pain anymore.
Just wish she could be that way and still be here. Her wisdom and insight was so valuable, and I felt so honored and validated whenever she'd kick one of my threads.

GREAT lady.

Hugs to you, Rex!!!

15. "We need to keep her quest alive." That was her last request, and
I fear it is lost here.

Thank you for reminding us.

11. Beautiful, Bluebear. K&R
Indigo is around and about. She has a thread up on the Half-in-Ten campaign to cut poverty in the United States in half in ten years -- her mother's daughter, for sure. I hope she sees this.

17. Bluebear, thank you for this lovely post. Here's more on a man's worth:
The Drum Major Instinct
Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

~ excerpt ~

And so Jesus gave us a new norm of greatness. If you want to be important — wonderful. If you want to be recognized — wonderful. If you want to be great — wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness.

And this morning, the thing that I like about it: by giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.

(snip)

Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter. I won't have any money to leave behind. I won't have the fine and luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just want to leave a committed life behind. And that's all I want to say.
