Sixteen blessings for this mom

By MARK WIEBE
The Kansas City Star

As with most mothers, Jeri McDonnell rightly can expect her fair share of attention today.

She is, after all, the mother of 16 children. None of them multiples. No stepchildren. No adoptions. All with her husband, Tim.

So Mother’s Day, as expected, is pretty special for Jeri. But not so special that she feels she can shirk her responsibilities as a general manager at Famous Dave’s restaurant in Kansas City, Kan. She plans to work a shift today.

“You see,” she said, “every day is Mother’s Day to me.”

4. And she works full time
How in the world can she find the time to give each of those 16 kids the time and attention all children deserve?

5. Interesting comment following this story:
The admiring tone of this story makes it seem that it's admirable to give birth to 16 children, when, in fact, it shows a blatant disregard for the condition of our planet and society. The real long-term solution to our energy and environmental crises is to reduce the population to a point where it is sustainable with the resources we have been provided. The fact that the McDonnells had 16 kids because "they want them" shows their selfishness -- not their selflessness. The moms we should be praising are those who might have wanted more kids, but restrained themselves for the greater good.

8. Compared to someone who has adopted ONE unwanted child, these people are scum.
It doesn't take any brains, integrity, altruism or philanthropy to fuck nonstop.

12. Heck, they should have a day for women who chose not to have kids.
Women who have chosen not to have kids face a lot of pressure and disdain in today's society. Regardless of the situation women who are childless by choise are the ones who are doing the most for the environment and the planet. Instead, they are derided as not good enough, as not proper women, and for not being good citizens (because they haven't produced workers that can take care of them when they get old - disregarding the taxes these weomen have paid, and the tax credits they've been denied.)

19. I have taken a lot of static for my choice not to have children.
fortunately I came of child-bearing age when it was just becoming somewhat acceptable to be child-free.

6. Paitlyn? She named a kid Paitlyn?
That's worse than Jinger.

Seriously, got knocked up at 16 out of wedlock, got knocked up when the first kid was one month old (When you're not even supposed to do it for 6 weeks after) No wonder she's got so many kids, she's a fucking rabbit.

But seriously- Paitlyn?

9. When I look at the photos of this family, my hackles don't rise
Edited on Sun May-11-08 01:31 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
and my stomach doesn't lurch as it does to the Duggar family. These seem to be normal people who wished to have a large family, out of love and not duty to a god.

Happy Mom's Day to all!

13. I agree but I reject
commending this mother. As with the Duggars, there is no way each of these children can get the love and attention they deserve. And this mom even works full time. So her children are guaranteed to be ignored.

15. There can be two children in a family and neither of them receive love and attention.
Sometimes, size doesn't matter.

17. I have taught a bunch of kids from large families
The younger ones tend to get a lot of attention. But the older ones don't. It's really quite sad. They don't get a childhood. They are parenting younger sibs.
