8. I think they use those stiff fabrics to help prop her up, stay upright.
She always looks like she dresses in cheap upholstery fabric.

38. It would be so easy to have her look dazzling for any occasion
She's a nice looking woman and carries herself well. But the fabrics and styles never bring out her best.

Btw, I laughed out loud at the fabric propping her up! The low road suits me just fine!

43. This picture is far better than a larger group shot with the groom, and sister Barbara.
Edited on Sun May-11-08 05:08 PM by calimary
In that one, laura looked like the dress REALLY WAS propping her up. She looked like a frail little old lady of maybe 85. She was lit HIDEOUSLY. TOO many shadows brought out in her face and neck, and her posture looked like she was all caved in. TERRIBLE. It actually looked like one of those proverbial dresses that you don't wear - the dress wears YOU. Look, I dislike her myself, certainly, but SOMEONE should have worked with her and dressed her and perhaps should have helped a little with the photography. Someone in that particular photo should also have worked with young Barbara in her halter top, bare-back dress. VERY strange posture. Don't know what she was thinking! For all their money and influence, this part of it could have been done much, much better. Kind of a shame in a way.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3270820

OP includes the picture. This one in this OP is more flattering of laura. The larger group shot is horrendous.

48. Oh, jeez!
I see what you mean. And it's unnecessary. Mom is not a bad looking woman. She could look fabulous if, like you said, there was someone with some taste and sense of style putting her wardrobe together. I'm not a clothes horse and I know I could do it. That's how far off base she looks.

She would have looked better in a bathrobe, for pity sakes.

50. Agreed.
She's probably been through a lot lately, what with the way everything is souring for her husband. I bet she's lost sleep and smoked some more - two things NOT good for the skin, especially as you age (she said, while slathering on another fancy-ass moisturizer in her fifth decade...). It would have been nice at least to make sure she at least looked good or photographed well. She's gonna hate that particular photo forever - every time she looks at it. The mother-of-the-bride deserves to look nice. And maybe she's just had to give up on her World-Class-ASSHOLE of a husband. Who knows? She may well be burning off all her Purgatory time this round.

52. I'm picturing her in something with a lace top
Hugging her collar bone and showing her neck. Maybe a fitted dress with longish sleeve. Not to compete with the bride but more to complement it as she did by picking a darker shade. Together, we could find her something right off the rack, for sure.

54. She could have partnered with Vogue magazine or Harpers Bazaar and offered
Edited on Sun May-11-08 06:16 PM by calimary
a young, struggling, up-and-coming designer an opportunity to launch a career. The sophisticates at the magazine could have overseen it and made sure it was tasteful.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to begin with her. Something long and simple, maybe in an overall color, but not as bright? A pretty, rich brown maybe? Long and slimming and elegant and understated in fabric that's not so stiff. Do an Audrey Hepburn on her or something. And perhaps, if sleeveless, a contrasting soft, beige pashmina shawl to drape over her upper arms and ease the overall silhouette. And make damned sure that neck is better lit!!! Dear God! I don't like her much, and I think she has lousy taste in husbands, but she doesn't deserve this!

On second thought - a plain, high-necked, floor-length sheath would do it, maybe in a light-ish brown or brick (not beige-y, too close to skin-colored) in a soft fabric. Sleeveless, with the contrasting lighter color pashmina. It'd be really pretty and feminine and chic and understated, make her look great without distracting from the bride, and play off her hair and her skin tones.

But what the hell do I know?

and that they only released this because of Obama. To make it seem Jenna and her Bush Bot (young Repug Hubby..are really cool).

Also, I heard on NPR today that the Bush family were going through the pictures to see which ones should be released...for optimum Political Impact...I imagine.

cleans up the gene pool though, and if this clod is a GOP minion, as described, he's already trying to figure out what to do, and his sperm are mostly never going anywhere near her fallopian tubes, are they are in a constant state of turning right, creating a circular motion that in turn creates a vortex drawing his testicle(s) up behind his bladder...not hard to do when it/they are tiny and necrotic anyway...
