Is this the FIRST Presidential Wedding that was held in Secret out of the WH?
I used to be into Presidential History...but have kind of lost it being so upset over Gore being trashed by the "Supremes." But, it seems to me having a "wedding in secret" is a first for the Bushies from what I remember. Perhaps there are those on DU who might have a better sense of the real history on this.

Also...that there were only "selected photo's released to the media" so late?

I wonder if this was so "secretive" to cover up the GUEST LIST! Saudi Princes giving jewels and Gold? Reverent Moon giving "jewels and gold? and, who the hell else knows what that guest list was and who was giving... I'm sure that Chalibi and the Neo-Cons were also very generous with "Jewels, Gold and Stock Portfolio's. She married an inside young and coming Bush Bot..an insider.

THEY ARE SET FOR LIFE! But, shouldn't the American Public know as much about this as we do Madonna, J-Lo or any other (more current) celebrity wedding? WHAT ARE THE CONNECTIONS? WHO GAVE WHAT?

Can we get a Query going to the Mainstream Media and Paparozzi..who should have managed to treat this like the Celebrity Wedding it really is?

32. A little more about Jenna and Henry Hegar....protege of Karl Rove..from here..

STREET TALK

January 26, 2005
Jenna Bush Dating Richmonder?
Does Jenna Bush have a local beau? Apparently so — the offspring of another Republican figure, former Lt. Gov. John H. Hager, who stepped down as Virginia’s director of the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness in April. Friends of the Hager’s 26-year-old son, Henry, have been talking about their buddy’s romantic interest, but the Hager family is averse to discussing the relationship. “I don’t really want to talk about it,” says Henry’s mother, Maggie Hager, reached at home last week. “That’s a private family matter.” Asked about Jenna Bush’s dating status, a spokeswoman for first lady Laura Bush said, “We cannot comment on the girls’ personal life.”Fortunately for Henry, Jenna’s dad approves of the Hager name. In May, President Bush nominated John Hager to be assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services, a position in the Department of Education.

Henry Hager, who has served as a White House aide, worked for Karl Rove’s team to help re-elect Bush.

If Henry and Jenna met during the campaign, they didn’t necessarily date. On Election Night in November, according to a local Republican insider, Jenna Bush appeared to have another male companion by her side. But by last week’s inaugural events, they were being spotted together.

Jenna Bush, 23, is anything but a wallflower. After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in English in May, she stepped up her efforts to help her father’s presidential campaign. She and her twin sister, Barbara, were all the rage at inaugural parties last week. Hip designer Badgley Mischka created Jenna’s inaugural ball gown, made of an emerald silk crepe with metallic leather banding and jeweled insets.

Last week, a spokesman for the first lady even had to put a lid on speculation that Jenna was engaged. The buzz started when Jenna was pictured at inaugural events wearing jewelry on the ring finger of her left hand. Engagement ring? No, the Associated Press reported Jan. 20. Bush spokesman Gordon Johndroe told the AP, “She’s still single,” and was not engaged or secretly wed.

So what’s Henry Hager like? “He’s got his head on straight,” says one friend of the family. He’s a graduate of St. Christopher’s School and has collegiate good looks, according to a female account. Style was unable to reach him at his Arlington apartment.

Ann Gerhart, a staff writer for the Washington Post, reported last week that the Bush twins caught the eyes of many admirers during inaugural festivities. At a pre-inauguration party sponsored by the National Beer Wholesalers Assocation, Gerhart wrote, Jenna was spotted at the VIP bar ordering herself a vodka and tonic. She was watched like the celebrity she has become.

Then, Gerhart wrote, just before Stephen Baldwin approached Jenna, there was a moment of romance: “By 11 p.m. she’s back at the bar, then back to the rail, smoking and sipping, while a young man caresses her hair and her back.”

Could the nameless young man have been Henry Hager? We think the Secret Service may have a clue. — Jason Roop and Scott Bass

it was PRIVATE not SECRET.

She's a decent girl with quite a bit of Africa volunteer work to her credit.
What did she ever do to get you'all bent out of shape?
'Cos she's a Bush?
You don't get to chose your parents.

Hell, there's enough 'real' things to worry about.

Happy Mothers Day.

Mega Mansion in Exclusive Section of Huston ....all vacations to Dubai "Wonder Park" paid for, for life and whatever else their wishes could desire the "Magic Carpet" of the Payoffs for Invading and Occupying Iraq...is BIG PAYOFF for someone.

It's a charmed life...they will start off very well and produce more Bushies...and what else could the Chimp be hoping for in his dotage. I didn't think Jenna would be the one to cave...I thought it would be Barbara..but seeing her "hike up her skirt" and almost be "posturing "FU" to the photographer gave me hope for her. I can't stand the Bush crime family and that goes for the rich kid who married Karl Rove's protege' - I would not walk across the street to see her or any other Bush spawn.

The whole scene made me ill. Jenna and W dancing - MEANWHILE...Millions of Iraqis dead, the rest going without water, electricity and medical care - thousands of our own dead Americans - the ruin of our economy and being the laughing stock of the planet has pretty much left me cold when it comes to any of these asses.

Do you think that Jenna Bush had a wedding that your or I or any of our relatives ever could have dreamed of? If it "REALLY WAS SO MODEST" why didn't the Bushies tout it as such with many MSM articles placed in Teen Magazines and Time and Newsweek about how "modest" Jenna's wedding was going to be and how the two were going to "rough it" in a Two Bedroom in Baltimore! 31. From the Los Angeles Times...Henry Hager is Heir to Karl Rove...
Jenna Bush and husband-to-be buy a Baltimore home
The two-story, 128-year-old row house is not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but it'll do.
By Jean Marbella
Baltimore Sun

April 11, 2008

BALTIMORE — The painter, prepping to apply a couple of coats of linen white, didn't know who was about to move in. A neighbor had no clue either. Even the seller didn't realize who had bought his South Baltimore row house.

The first time Daddy visits, though, any lingering mystery will vanish, right around the time the serious-looking, earpiece-wearing Secret Service agents show up: Jenna Bush and Henry Hager, who by then will be her husband, are moving into a two-story, 128-year-old row house in a lively neighborhood south of downtown.

The White House wouldn't comment on the couple's new digs. (It rarely discusses the Bush family's private doings.) Real estate and property tax documents, though, confirm that Hager bought the house last month for $440,000. He turned over power of attorney to Jenna for the purpose of signing purchasing and financing documents in his name -- including an affidavit that stated this would be Hager's principal residence.

It's unclear when Jenna -- the blond half of President Bush's 26-year-old twin daughters -- and Hager, a former aide to Karl Rove, will move in. The couple are scheduled to marry at the president's ranch near Crawford, Texas, on May 10, and Hager, 29, is due to receive an MBA at the University of Virginia about a week later. Then there's been talk of a long honeymoon in Europe.

But after that, imagine the possibilities of future sightings in the neighborhood: There's Rub, the barbecue restaurant whose menu tips its (cowboy) hat to Ruby's, a beloved eatery just off the campus of Jenna's alma mater, the University of Texas in Austin; and Ropewalk, the watering hole that serves as something of a Republican oasis in an overwhelmingly Democratic neighborhood and city.

Roger Sandau, a lawyer and insurance broker who had lived in the house for a year before selling it, said neither Hager nor Jenna Bush was at the closing, having signed the necessary documents earlier and leaving the actual settlement to their agent.

"I had no idea that's who bought it," he said. "I heard it was a relocation for Constellation."

It is: Hager reportedly has been hired by the energy conglomerate, which is the parent company of BGE and has its headquarters nearby.

Told who Hager and his fiancee are, Sandau wasn't overly impressed -- he works in the entertainment business and has a client list that he says includes "many" celebrities -- but was delighted.

"There's a real sort of heartbeat in that neighborhood. Their ability to walk to restaurants and bars will make it wonderful for them," Sandau said.

Neighbors say the red brick row house with a wood-framed storefront window is believed to have been a dry cleaners and a candy shop in previous incarnations. It's spacious, by row-house standards, at nearly 2,000 square feet, and a peek through the first-floor windows reveals that it has exposed brick walls, a fireplace and hardwood floors.

But the prime piece of this real estate is in back: an attached garage.

"I would say that when it snows," Sandau said, "they will smile with glee every time they pull in."

Perhaps in part because of the guaranteed space in a neighborhood where parking is at a premium, the house generated a lot of interest despite an otherwise down market, Sandau said.

"I would move in yesterday," said neighbor Jen Kearney, who pronounced the house in "fantastic shape." She was tickled to learn who had bought the house, welcoming them and whatever fringe benefits they bring.

"I'll love having her security," Kearney said of the Secret Service detail that guards members of the president's family.

37. A little more about Henry's background, here, too..."It mens a lot to Henry and Me to be outdoors...
Edited on Sun May-11-08 06:26 PM by KoKo01
"It means a lot to Henry and me to be outdoors," Jenna said in an interview with Vogue magazine. "We wanted something organic and low-key.

"There's a glamour to it, I know," she said of White House ceremonies. "But Henry and I are far less glamorous than the White House."

Her wedding gown, however, was the creation of Oscar de la Renta, a top New York designer and favorite of the first lady's. It's made of organza, a sheer fabric, with embroidery and matte beading. Jenna has described the dress as "simple and elegant."

For the bridesmaids, New York designer Lela Rose, a native of Dallas, has made silk crinkle chiffon, cocktail-length dresses all adorned with handmade chiffon flowers. There are seven different styles of dresses in seven different colors that match the palate of Texas wildflowers - blues, greens, lavenders and pinky reds - that currently are in bloom.

"No two girls will be in the same dress," said Rose, whose father and Bush were general managing partners of the Texas Rangers.

The maid of honor will wear a long, shimmering, moonstone blue silk gown with a fluttered open back. "It's very soft blue," Rose said. "It really matches Barbara's eyes." The dress is accented with a silver sash to complement those used for the bridesmaids' dresses.

Bush may be commander in chief, but outnumbered by three women - his wife and twin daughters - he hasn't gotten to weigh in much on the wedding planning.

"They're letting me spend money," Bush joked in February.

Bush played the role of broke father of the bride again in March, joking: "I had to face some very difficult spending decisions, and I've had to conduct sensitive diplomacy. That's called planning for a wedding."

When he first talked about it, the president didn't seem all that nostalgic about seeing one of his daughters marry. When Hager said "I want to marry your daughter,' Bush said he replied, "Done deal."

Today, Bush is a bit more wistful. With just nine months left in office and his popularity sliding, Bush jokes that GOP presidential candidate John McCain isn't the only one who wants to distance himself from him.

"Jenna is moving out, too," Bush says.

53. and boy are you sympathetic?
i'm not going to harangue jenna bush. in fact, i wish the best for her. i agree you can't choose your parents, and personally, i tend to avoid commenting on the personal lives of presidential children- except when they are working to further their parents' agenda, such as the cheney daughter campaigning against her own interests, otherwise, it's basically off limits.

however, you sound a tad on the defensive side.

the bush family has wreaked havoc worldwide- i'd kind of expect people, especially on a democratic site, to be a tad suspicious and curious about secrecy and backgrounds of persons involved and new to the bush family.

54. Thank you for your response and
No I am not sympathetic, I just fail to see the point of all the 'wedding' threads.

What 'mystery' or 'conspiracy' could be there be behind a private wedding?
Perhaps she should have held it at the WH?
Would that make everybody feel better?

I guess I just feel we are bigger and better than all this, dare I say, crap.
Or it could be that I was raised not to show such bad manners.

55. thank you for
your very civilized reply.

i do agree- wedding schmedding, and there are more than enough threads and articles on the matter.

some people just find it hard to believe, after 8 years of secrecy and lies & damned lies that there isn't something to be suspected.

but you're right- we are bigger and better- so let's take the high road and plain ignore it.

:hi:

65. People are bent out of shape because there wasn't any protest ops.
Edited on Mon May-12-08 08:18 AM by Mike Daniels
By having it at a private residence, the Bushes "robbed" a bunch of people of their opportunity to get video time through media images of a protest near the White House.

I've never cared much for Cindy Sheehan's (spelling?) occasional media-whore moments but I'll give her and the group that has their HQ near the ranch points for allowing Jenna to have her moment without an accompanying media circus.

Was it worth a fraction of the media coverage it got? Hell no. But I fail to see why people feel a wedding of a member of the president's family on private grounds should be a public spectacle.

35. No.
John Tyler remarried in private after his first wife died. There were no "White House Weddings" until Cleveland.

45. Thanks for the correction.
Still, it's not the first time a President or one of his children has gotten married privately.

38. The noise of the protesters in DC would have screwed up
the ceremony.

There was more control in Crawford.

Seriously.

Plus, Jenna isn't all THAT stupid; she's just a party girl---but, she knows people hate her father, and probably her new, icky, Rove-trained jackass, piece of shit husband.

41. Interesting point about protestors...if in DC.. and why they couldn't have it in WH...
...giving her credit for some savvy as a party girl...who still "get's it." thanks!

39. So much hate and bitterness..
I wish them the best and hope they become better people than their parents were. I think members of generation-y are less self-absorbed, materialistic and socially irresponsible than their baby boomer parents, in general. Good luck to them.

42. We all hope they will be better than their parents...but it's up to folks to point out where they
went wrong because in their "bubble" they just might not understand what's wrong with Rove and Jenna's Poppy...

If someone doesn't point it out...they will think they are as entitled as the rest of their families. I don't think we should be "silent." Chelsea Clinton and the Johnson Girls got really raked over the coals and they were younger then Jenna and Barbara and took much harsher comments than some of us yukking over her marrying a Karl Rove protege.
