The way to stop the Right Wing may have been ironically said by a Right Winger

Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas declared (4/16/03): "All of the printed and voiced prophecies should be saved in an archive. When these false prophets again appear, they can be reminded of the error of their previous ways and at least be offered an opportunity to recant and repent. Otherwise, they will return to us in another situation where their expertise will be acknowledged, or taken for granted, but their credibility will be lacking."

Of course, Thomas was referring to the people who said war in Iraq would turn into a disaster, the people who, you know, were actually right.

That's what we should do, we can't turn back the clock and bring God knows how many innocent people and Americans who were killed in Iraq. But, we can use their predictions of quick victory, that we'll find the weapons of mass destruction in a matter of days, and so much more.

Take the words, remember them, quote them, put them in things like Wikipedia. Don't give them the opportunity to brush these deceiving false prophecies off, and we have a responsibility to never forget.

"Tommy Franks and the coalition forces have demonstrated the old axiom that boldness on the battlefield produces swift and relatively bloodless victory. The three-week swing through Iraq has utterly shattered skeptics' complaints."
(Fox News Channel's Tony Snow, 4/13/03)

"The only people who think this wasn't a victory are Upper Westside liberals, and a few people here in Washington."
(Charles Krauthammer, Inside Washington, WUSA-TV, 4/19/03)

"The war was the hard part. The hard part was putting together a coalition, getting 300,000 troops over there and all their equipment and winning. And it gets easier. I mean, setting up a democracy is hard, but it is not as hard as winning a war."
(Fox News Channel's Fred Barnes, 4/10/03)

"I doubt that the journalists at the New York Times and NPR or at ABC or at CNN are going to ever admit just how wrong their negative pronouncements were over the past four weeks."
(MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, 4/9/03)

"Over the next couple of weeks when we find the chemical weapons this guy was amassing, the fact that this war was attacked by the left and so the right was so vindicated, I think, really means that the left is going to have to hang its head for three or four more years."
(Fox News Channel's Dick Morris, 4/9/03)

"Well, the hot story of the week is victory.... The Tommy Franks-Don Rumsfeld battle plan, war plan, worked brilliantly, a three-week war with mercifully few American deaths or Iraqi civilian deaths.... There is a lot of work yet to do, but all the naysayers have been humiliated so far.... The final word on this is, hooray."
(Fox News Channel's Morton Kondracke, 4/12/03)

"Sean Penn is at it again. The Hollywood star takes out a full-page ad out in the New York Times bashing George Bush. Apparently he still hasn't figured out we won the war."
(MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, 5/30/03)

"This will be no war -- there will be a fairly brief and ruthless military intervention.... The president will give an order. (The attack) will be rapid, accurate and dazzling.... It will be greeted by the majority of the Iraqi people as an emancipation. And I say, bring it on."
(Christopher Hitchens, in a 1/28/03 debate-- cited in the Observer, 3/30/03)

"I will bet you the best dinner in the gaslight district of San Diego that military action will not last more than a week. Are you willing to take that wager?"
(Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly, 1/29/03)

"Even in the flush of triumph, doubts will be raised. Where are the supplies of germs and poison gas and plans for nukes to justify pre-emption? (Freed scientists will lead us to caches no inspectors could find.) What about remaining danger from Baathist torturers and war criminals forming pockets of resistance and plotting vengeance? (Their death wish is our command.)"
(New York Times' William Safire, 4/10/03)

We can not let the false prophets of the right wing continue their deception anymore.

16. Except this will be the ONLY place you see or hear them
The general public will never get these reminders...Just like they never heard the Republicans saying over and over how Clinton's budget would completely destroy the economy. It was impossible to do what Clinton wanted without putting America into Depression. Funny thing how America went on to experience the Greatest economic expansion in history and as soon as Republicans took over the Administration and instituted their economic plans America experienced the greatest economic turn around in history I did not see one Kerry ad with any of those Republican sound bites or any of Gore's either..

They don't say that so much any more. Along with a lot of other bullshit

that they have given up on because the truth has become so obvious.

9. As a faithful Jon Stewart fan, he uses that technique all the time
For instance, He'll show film footage of something that the Bush administration says "We never ever said the mission in Iraq would be a cakewalk."

And then Jon will flash back to news clips from five years ago to two years ago and show that yes, the Adminstration did say it was gonna be a cakewalk.

10. you know, we really need a citizens project...
...where a corps of internet activists work to keep the record straight and archive it. Democrats ought to have been doing so. Twenty committed people who are willing to work on that instead of arguing on message boards could handle such a project. Of course, it would be nice if they could get paid to do so. It would make a great ongoing project for a non-profit. Unfortunately, Democrats don't seem to invest in this kind of stuff.

14. We have such a project (sort of)
It's called Wikipedia. The OP suggested that people should make sure this information is in Wikipedia, which would be a good idea. (Some of it is more appropriate for the companion project, Wikiquote.)

Wikipedia isn't like DU's late lamented Demopedia or the ongoing dKosopedia. Both of those were/are strictly progressive projects, while Wikipedia is neutral. The disadvantage of neutrality is that you can't point out that, for example, Rush Limbaugh is a hatemonger. The advantage is that Wikipedia gets many more readers than the lefty-only sites, and when you quote Limbaugh there, many people who aren't committed leftists will see that he's a hatemonger.

It falls short of your ideal in that contributors don't get paid. There's no money to pay them because Wikipedia doesn't accept advertising. Overall, that's a good thing.

13. Glen Greenwald on Salon.com frequently comments on the fact that
those who were totally wrong about the war are still treated as "serious people" and given spots on MSM news and punditry programs, whereas those who were 100% right are still treated as "unserious people"--as the lunatic fringe, even--and not given spots on such shows to express their opinions and the facts they have gathered.

You're not going to convince them.
