One reason I quit Ebaying as a seller is because of the high fees on Paypal AND Ebay. Some sellers just quit using Paypal...but now they are thinking of forcing you to use it? RIP Ebay. You'll probably end up losing the rest of the average sellers now and you can have your site full of powerselling dropshippers all to yourself. Australia is fighting it..but in this corporate climate in the US...they'll be able to do anything they want.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — EBay is exploring whether to require customers to use its online payment service PayPal, a move that has angered users and prompted antitrust scrutiny in Australia, where a PayPal-only rule takes effect next month.

It's unclear whether eBay will institute a similar policy in the United States and other countries. However, the online auction company often tries big changes in smaller markets before expanding them worldwide, and says it is open to that in this case.

But critics lament that PayPal is costlier than other payment options, and they suspect eBay is just interested in increasing PayPal's revenue. Australian banks say the plan will eliminate competition for the sake of exaggerated benefits.

"Competition will be restricted, innovation and development will be constrained, new entry will be discouraged and PayPal will be able to increase fees and charges to eBay users," the Australian Bankers Association said in a filing with regulators Thursday.

1. I am a buyer
and that would be the end of my ebaying. I have reached my limit on paypal and I will not let them into my bank acct to be verified. If I have spent enough without any problems to reach the limit there is no reason for them to need access to my checking acct.

2. Oooooh, That Would be *Bad* Move for eBay
nothing angers your customers like forcing them to do anything.

I'm going to check out the stock on some competitive auction sites. They will get a nice bounce if eBay goes through with this.

3. Incredibly dumb move
I'm a seller and buyer, and a move to require paypal on all transactions would cause me to move all my business elsewhere. While most of the payments I have sent out and received have been through paypal, I do not like being required to use it. Especially when eBay refuses to update information on a seller's email address, thus complicating the process and delaying the transaction. I have been forced to ask buyers to send me payments through the mail after eBay and paypal have screwed things up.
