What good has bush done for the US?
I asked someone this today. Their reply was how much everyone hates him and how everyone ignores all the good he's done. Still couldn't get specifics on his 'good deeds'.

What I don't understand is the hatred that folks had for Carter
for making us conserve...yet, the high prices of food and gas are FORCING us to conserve, yet you don't HEAR the vile hatred for Bush that you did for Carter.

7. Then you haven't talked to ME!!!
It's official, * couldn't possibly have won in either 2000 or 2004 because, according to everyone I talk to, nobody voted for him.

2. Wrecked the Republican Party
He wrecked the Republican Brand for the next generation. This is a very good deed, indeed.

however unintentional it was.

Drug bill. I don't LIKE IT, but it's better than none at all!

5. What good has the US done for Bush? Latest president to turn around that phrase
"... ask what you can do for the country."
He's the only one to benefit from his policies, except for his cronies. Definitely from the mold of Warren Harding and Ulysses Grant.

8. Big Oil is back on its feet again
They'll probably need another 10 years of tax breaks and price supports (at least) to really become a going concern, but Big Oil can finally hold its head up in the mighty company of international corporations, instead of being a supplicant at the door. See, none of you quite grasp the humiliation and embarrassment that follow when you cruise into the marina in last year's model yacht. Oh, the snickering is unbearable!

9. His position on Illegal Immigration is more reasonable than most Republicans
but he couldn't get it passed, so I guess that doesn't count.

Everything else he's done has largely been a disaster - were I a marxist I could say he's increased the likelihood of a revolution against the Capitalist Machinery.

11. There is no good. This administration can be measured by its destructive actions
They really hate America and are trying to destroy it.

1. They are killing the national economy and industry, resulting in the destruction of the middle class
2. They are squeezing us dry running a costly, endless war that drains every resource we have and those we don't
3. They are killing our national reputation by overtly demonstrating torture overseas and complete disregard for human life at home (as in Katrina)
4. They have put us under the economic control of a foreign (communist) power, China
5. They have let our infrastructure rot, our schools decay
6. They have aided and abetted the "privatization" of public functions, from utilities to the military
7. They have altered the Constitution, overturning the all important right of habeas corpus. They have trampled on the first amendment in regard to political speech, creating "free speech zones;"
8. They have allowed the undercutting of property rights with an expanded eminent domain that allows private land to be seized by the government and turned over to private companies.
9. They have seized control of all public waterways while selling off public lands like national parks. Water will probably be "privatized" in the same way.
10. They have expanded the power of the President to be that of a dictator, who can ignore due process, search warrants and other Constitutional protections. The President can declare you a "terrorist" for any reason he deems fit and lock you up without any legal protections whatsoever.
11. They have expanded wiretapping (eavesdropping is too kind a word; spying is more appropriate) to include the ability to spy on citizens for any reason or no reason.

In short, America is being destroyed by hijackers of its government. The Bush administration IS the wrecking crew.

12. He woke a lot of people up to exactly what the GOP is.
Any good he's done has been purely unintentional with one exception: he has contributed to some of the efforts to fight AIDS in Africa. He's also fouled up other efforts with his gag rule and insistence on abstinence, something that isn't going to work any better there than it does here.

He had help, of course, from a cadre of craven men whose only aim was to stripmine as much wealth out of this country as they could while they pursued dreams of a foreign empire built on oil.

Their main problem is timing. We are beginning to see the endgame of the policies Reagan set into motion that shifted wealth away from the people and into the pockets of a few plutocrats, something that was masked for many by access to easy credit. Since those days are over, the masks are off and people are faced with the reality of the situation: they have been robbed for decades and none of the middle class dream they have been surrounded by is really theirs.

The scary part is they only missed escaping the beginning of the collapse by a year and a half.

14. The Do Not Call List
Edited on Mon May-12-08 03:05 PM by knight_of_the_star
I think that's about it. Everything else he did that will prove in the long term good for the country came at a high cost, that's the ONLY good thing he did that didn't have any serious flaws and drawbacks attached to it.

That being said, I'm glad he signed that one. Guess cold calls inc, didn't grease the right palms.

17. Possibly speeded up the crash of capitalism and the end of empire.
When the day comes people here probably won't think it's good, but the horror in Iraq and the country's bankruptcy bring the world closer to the end of US military domination.
