$4.00 gas next week
Maybe you're already paying that where you are.
But not here, yet.

I was at the bank today.
Opening a new account.
The lady I was talking to told me that a customer who owns a gas station had been in earlier.
Gas is now around $3.69 here.
He told her that his station would be going to $4.00 next week.
Holy shit!
:-(

2. My car needs 93 octane...I've been paying that for weeks.
Not a plea for sympathy...it's all my doing.

...just a reminder that some of us have been paying $4 for a while.

Though it did stabilize (whoopie!) at $4.10 for the last week and a half.

12. I mainly incorporate all my driving into single trips
My wife doesnt drive, so after I drive her to work I hit the stores on the way home.

Repeat again later in the day.

I usually drive around 60 miles per day doing that.

Our car (4 cyl. 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder) gets a decent 28 MPG on the highway.

6. I knew it would be
Up to $4.00 in most places by memorial day. Every year they jack up the price for memorial day, and then again around the 4th of July. It's called "GREED"! They can get away with anything they want as long as Bush and Cheney are in charge. I paid $3.82 today, but expect it be going up at least one or two more times this week alone. I am willing to bet by memorial day we will be paying $4.00 per gallon here. Diesel is already up to $4.63!

7. Memorial Day travel
Every holiday, it spikes, and never recovers from that spike.

Before the easter holiday or spring break whichever you prefer, prices were below $3 avg. That week we were lucky to find $3.19

Now we are looking at another holiday and time to introduce an new record.

This has been this way for the last 8 years.

9. I'd hate to be a station owner
Most customers don't know that they aren't the ones making the huge profits and I bet it gets pretty nasty sometimes. Those poor workers in those stations might have to start wearing bullet proof vests.

I have an uncle who runs three gas stations. He'll tell you they don't get them a week in advance. I've seen him get them the day before.

14. $3.99 Naperville, IL 5/10/08
Corner of 75th, near Woodridge border.

Last I looked by me, two days ago, it was $3.89/gal. I'm scared to know what it is today, or even a few days from now when I'll need to fill up again.

The good thing, though, is that I was forced to get another car when my engine had its bearings stripped (fuel pump replacement two years ago: mechanic didn't secure the fuel array to the gas tank ... only used one bolt ... caused sand to get into the filter, fuel injectors, and during the attempt to find out what was wrong, into the engine).

My new car, a Chevy Aveo, gets 34 to 37 mpg. It has a nine gallon tank and after a week and a half of normal driving, it only cost me $28.00 to fill it up.

Still a lot of bucks for seven and a half gallons.
