Meals On Wheels Cutting Back Due To High Food, Gas Prices
Meals On Wheels Cutting Back Due To High Food, Gas Prices

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The economic crisis is causing everyone to cut back, especially those programs that help those in need. Meals On Wheels is just one example of a service that is in crisis mode.

For the first time in history, the group cannot afford to help every senior who needs a hot meal.

Now some are worried the slowing economy will put the brakes on Meals On Wheels.

Marie Parrott said would be lost without Meals On Wheels.

"I have Parkinsons, and I shake so bad that I can't hardly cook," Parrott said.

1. Sheesh. America is pathetic!
Is this happening just because it costs $90
to fill a MoW van with gas?

That extra $40 means they can't provide for
any more disabled or seniors?

Surely people would donate more, or again, if
they knew.

2. this is a crying shame, I have volunteered with deliveries
What are those poor folks going to do, pull up to a house in July with 2 seniors, they still have their reindeer from Christmas
on the lawn, one has fallen over, they are marooned in an aging house in the suburbs; nobody but meals on wheels ever
comes near.

3. Well, keeping old people alive may just be a luxury that America can no longer afford.
Just as long as we don't have to shift our resources away from the really important things, like wars and corporate profits.

7. well, his cleverness got him a suicide in a bunker
we all mean something, we are a community, if humanity has anything which raises it above animals, it is it's sense of right and wrong, the ability to see things above the immediate need. Helping them also helps us making us better people.

8. Sadly.. it is happening.
The safety net has big holes in it. Our roads, bridges and rail systems are crumbling. The Politicians have sent our jobs to China. The rest of the world is improving and growing, and leaving the U.S. behind. The Bankster/Gangsters and the criminals in CONgress will stay on this path until every last penny is extracted from the corpse. Who know what they will do next? By then we will be living in a "MAD-Max" society.
