Definately a stronghold and a 'given GOP base' in a normal election. The Cook PVI gives Mississippi's 1st a R+10 rating (they lean R with a 10 point margin over the average margin). There are districts that are almost R+30. But there are dem districts that are R+30 too.

they gave Bush 63% of the vote in 2004.

imagine if the democrats were doing so bad they couldn't hold onto house seats in Massachusetts or Connecticut. That is how the GOP feels right now. Fuck em.
