George Jr., Barbara Bush and Marie Antoinette
I read in the paper this morning that George gave up golf to honor the Iraqi solders who were fighting in his war. I liken this to "Let them eat cake". "We shall not wear diamonds". Dick Cheney's famous "So" answer. What was the quote of Barbara Bush that showed her disconnect with the true suffering of masses?

1. Something along the lines of
why should I bother my beautiful mind re deaths in Iraq and re Katrina, this is working out very well for them (referencing hurricane victims 'living' in the Astro Dome). These people are sickening but I want every single one of them to live extraordinarily long and healthy lives so they can see how history will judge them.

2. True and her "beautiful mind" crack...
...after everyone from New Orleans was sent to the Houston astrodome, while her boy enjoyed cake with Grandpa Pander.

5. What an affront to the memory of Marie Antoinette!
The lady does not deserve all the calumny heaped upon her:

3. Full quote...
"I watch none. He sits and listens and I read books, because I know perfectly well that, don't take offense, that 90 percent of what I hear on television is supposition, when we're talking about the news. And he's not, not as understanding of my pettiness about that. But why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that? And watch him suffer."

--Snopes

"Almost everyone I've talked to says, 'We're going to move to Houston.' What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them."

4. "They Volunteered"
That's the traditional GOOPer answer when you bring up anything about the treatment of our military and veterans...as if all the suffering and ineptness is their fault. It's part of the game Repugnicans have perfected...denial and self-absolution. Many of us saw it on display (very poorly) with Feith on TDS the other night. The parallel universe and bubble world these people live in are totally detached from any reprocussion of their decissions and now they want to revise history as if they can bullshit the world out of this mess the way they bullshitted their way into it.

It'll be interesting the mood of this country the day after the November elections...when the final days of this regime are at hand. I'm sure they'll do all they can to fleece and screw up the country to the bitter end, but will there be a backlash from more than just those of us on this side of reality...and a larger demand for this regime to be held accountable. A huge Democratic victory in November will be this regime's ultimate legacy...just like 1932 defined Hoover.
