Health Insurance Head scratching decision #759

Decided to make another effort to quit smoking cigarettes.

heard about this new therapeutic medication called Chantix...seems to have worked well for several people I know.

Went to the doc and got a prescription.

Went to Costco and had it filled.

$115 for a starter pack.

Insurance does not cover this medicine.

:scratching my head in wonderment::wtf:

1. Health Insurance is a crock...they are more interested in being barriers to care
than in promoting healthy lifestyles as evidenced by your experience.

2. I've been around the insurance industry for 25 years and they can still surprise me!

3. Good for you.
I got a prescription last December but put off buying it (the total for 3 to 4 months was $500) until the end of last month because my insurance doesn't cover the cost either. I took it for about three weeks (including the 1st week where you continue to smoke) and had to quit because it was giving me some seriously bad nausea. I still haven't smoked though I've been off Chantix for about a week.

God, I miss cigarettes, sigh.....

4. Third day for me and a constant, low grade headache seems to be my side effect

5. just remember
It gets better. How you feel today is not how you'll feel a month from now, two months from now, six months from now.

It's the best thing you'll ever do for yourself.

Hang in there!

6. that's high -- try Sam's Club
I used Chantix -- it does help. But if you have been smoking a long time, the 3 month program may not be enough. I paid $125 for my first month. It was worth it, because I didn't go through the heebie jeebies. Brother is back on it for 6 months. He smoked right through his first course.

Even with the drugs, you really have to WANT to quit. That seems to be the key.

7. My husband used it for one month only and has been smoke free for 4 months now.
His insurance didn't cover it either.
