The McCain "maverick" meme
Edited on Wed May-14-08 09:47 AM by Godlesscommieprevert
Is it a not-so-subtle allusion to his fighter-pilot past (think Cruise in 'Top Gun') - as well as trying to say he's not a real puke?

1. But he is a war hero!
They can't bring him up without mentioning that one!

2. He's a maverick for cheating his spouses and accepting $$$ from lobbyists
while pledging not to accept $$$$. Otherwise he's a angry tired old man with nothing to offer the country other than continuing a lot of Bush failures.

4. I think it is about Top Gun
He crashed a bunch of planes. He was apparently an arrogant show-off who thought nothing of smashing several thousand taxpayer dollars for a thrill.

If I remember correctly, he crashed one multi-million dollar plane on his way to a football game, when he was an instructor in the Navy at Pensacola.

Here's an account from "Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain" for what it's worth:

5. He has NINE homes. That's sooooooo ultra-maverick.
Most of us have ONE--if we're lucky.

6. It means bought and paid for by the former Cindy Hensley--I'm not joking, either:
mav·er·ick (mvr-k, mvrk)
n.
1. An unbranded range animal, especially a calf that has become separated from its mother, traditionally considered the property of the first person who brands it.

From the Free Online dictionary--and the accepted definition of the ranching western US: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/maverick

7. He a nutter!
Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate to become the next US president, is prone to uncontrollable fits of rage which those in his camp worry could be a liability, both in November's election and the job itself.

8. It is a Gift from the Repiglickin' Media
The Mighty Slime Machine LOVES McCain, and will do everything in their power to put him in the White House.
The suits at GE are having orgasms over his promise of 100 years of war.

They call him a "Maverick" and constantly remind us that "America loves mavericks".
Being a "maverick" makes McCain totally immune from 8 years of Bush** screwing up the country in every way imaginable.

It is the "Maverick" meme that we are running against, not the real McCain.
