Schlafly brushes off protestors: ‘They are a bunch of bitter women.’

Schlafly brushes off protestors: ‘They are a bunch of bitter women.’

Since Washington University in St. Louis announced it would honor anti-feminist activist Phyllis Schlafly with an honorary degree at Friday’s commencement, protest has been swift. Yesterday, 14 law school faculty members wrote to the university chancellor asking that he rescind the degree; a similar petition has 240 faculty signatures. Schlafly, however, is unrepetant, yesterday calling the protestors “a bunch of bitter women“:

“They are a bunch of bitter women,” she said of her detractors. “It was 25 years ago that we buried the Equal Rights Amendment and they are still whining about it.”

Her suggestion to them?

“Get a life. Move on. Try to do something with your life.”

“If they make a scene, they just make themselves look ridiculous,” Schlafly said. “It doesn’t bother me. I’m not going to let a bunch of tacky women ruin my day.”

5. Bitter women!
"we buried the Equal Rights Amendment."

I can't think of anything to say about her that I really even want to hear myself say out loud, let alone write and post.

6. Look Who's Talking!
The world doesn't conform to her limited vision, so she has been a bitter pill for decades. I don't think this is something she should be saying. It's so "projectionist".

8. Another anti-progress historical figure mired in irrelevancy. Didn't know she was still alive.
She'll go down in history beside that guy at the barber shop complaining about women's voting rights and those guys at the buggy garage saying "If god had wanted man to drive over 20 miles per hour, he'd have made bigger horses."

9. I love using Schlafly against conservatives
I have some friends who think Phyl is the bee's knees. After pointing out to them that she has a gay son, I make the point that Phyllis either proves that homosexuality is a genetic trait or by conservatives' own values, they should damn her and her parenting skills for always being on the road, "doing a man's work of lobbying Congress," and then debating a famous feminist author all over the country because if she had been home like she expected of every other woman, maybe her son wouldn't have "turned gay."

She has an undergraduate degree and a JD degree from Washington University, which is why they are honoring her I would imagine, hoping to get some of her money when she dies, since one of her sons came out in 1992 and a good homophobic Christian wouldn't want to give her money to someone like that, even if he is her son. She also has a Masters in Government from Radcliffe, has written books, run for elected office, managed at least one large organization and lectured, all while being married and having children. Yet she is working long and hard to prevent other women from achieving as much. Every time I hear her speak I want to tell her to STFU and get back to her kitchen, since that is what she wants other women to do. I wish that Washington University would reconsider and drop the idea, but like I said, I imagine it's about money.

15. "we buried the Equal Rights Amendment"
even as a man, I can not see how anyone would brag of such a thing. Just unfathomable.
