Teacher Disciplined For Controversial Student Survey
Survey Asks Which Student Likely To Get Pregnant
JACKSON, Miss. -- Jackson Public School officials disciplined a Chastain Middle School teacher who gave students a survey Monday asking them to select a student they thought was most likely to die, get pregnant or contract AIDS.
On Tuesday, the father of a Chastain sixth-grader asked school officials to fire the science teacher who gave out the survey. He said his daughter was selected by students as one of four girls most likely to become pregnant before graduating from high school.
On Wednesday, school officials issued an apology to parents.
"The district shares the concern of the parents and students and extends an apology to those who were subjected to this experience," the statement read. "In an effort to address this matter with the teacher and to express our displeasure regarding this act, we have recommended disciplinary action."
