COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's attorney general resigned Wednesday under threat of impeachment because of a sexual harassment investigation in his office and his extramarital affair.

Attorney General Marc Dann, a Democrat elected in 2006 on an anti-corruption platform, said at a news conference that he had to resign to preserve the ability of the office to carry out the priorities he established.

"It is now clear to me that the only way to protect these priorities for the office of attorney general and for the people of Ohio is to remove myself from the situation," said Dann, 46, in Gov. Ted Strickland's ceremonial Statehouse room.

It amazes me how the Democrats will jump on the band wagon of eating their own when a scandal happens but never pursue the same treatment for a republicon.

Dann was associated with someone who wrecked a "government car", and is under investigation for "sexual harassment" (a couple of co-workers went drinking with the associate ... one went home with him and fell asleep on his bed ... later waking up to find her pants unbuttoned ... < side note, how many people, drunk, wake up, do something, and go back to sleep, and then don't remember doing it in the morning? Like getting up to pee and being too drunk to redo your pants ...>)

Now, with the threat of investigation of his association with the guy, he admitted to having had an affair ...

Now the threat was coming on the idea that the (Republican-owned) State Government would be leading the investigation. Gee, they weren't that interested in investigating corruption when convicted criminal Bob Taft Jr. was in office, nor were they too concerned with investigating corruption when Ken Blackwell was getting big bucks from Diebold when they were lobbying for the statewide voting machines contract, or the fact that he was the head of the "Re-elect Bush" campaign in 2004 ...

Democrats in Ohio (including Sherrod Brown) were asking him to step down, to avoid a huge embarassment ... Dann refused. The impeachment threat came up (but surprisingly, the Repukes didn't want the impeachment to take place ... that way, in their convoluted logic, they could claim that the Dems were doing nothing about "corrupt" Marc Dann!) as pressure to get him to step down.

Yesterday, a deal had been hammered out which would have allowed Dann to step down, but the Ohio State House Republicans rejected it, and started raiding the offices as a result of the automatic feature of the options (it's complicated ...).

Clear Channel radio stations were saying that a Marc Dann/Ted Strickland press conference was coming up at noon ... which was news to Dann and Ted ...

Dann had a press conference at 4:50pm and stepped down ... but now the offices had been raided by the FBI ...
