Leaving, saying goodbye and I have a couple of questions

I've spent many good years on DU and I'll miss all the good people here (even some of my nicer combatants), but it's just not for me anymore. I could go on and on as to why but that would only contribute to the negativity.

Does anyone know if there's a way to delete a user account? I've already canceled my membership but I'd like to also delete the account entirely. If I knew which board script DU was using, I could figure it out but it seems to be an extensive hack. Any ideas?

So bye everyone -- I hope your lives are great, I hope the political skies are bright, and I'm hoping my ulcer will calm down once I'm gone. lol I'll be back a couple of times till I have the answer about deleting (yes, I've emailed tech but no answer)

I want to delete the account so it doesn't get hacked into or something. I've had this happen on another board when I abandoned an old ID. It would have nothing to do with any posts. And as I've never seen you before, I'm fairly certain I've never replied to you before (nor have you replied to me), so the point is moot.

18. I've been thinking of leaving myself. Very nearly got

tombstoned yesterday and would have finished the job had a couple of friends here I didn't know I had offered their kind and caring words by PM.

There's so much good to gain from being here but I just can't tolerate some things and some people. I spend A LOT of time here and I wonder what could happen if I just give up on DU and go back to sleep. I come to admire and respect someone here and then one day that person says or does something that totally wrecks my vision of them.

Everyone here cries about what's been done to our country but would most give all to take this country back? Will they trade in their comfortable lifestyles to fight for their freedom? Sadly, no. They won't. So here we are whining and bawling daily from our desks instead of doing the hard and sometimes sacrificial work that needs to be done to take our country back. I'm ready, willing, and able to do my part but, alas, many people are too scared and allow their fear to enable an evil cabal to take what they want, where they want, whenever they want. To me, it's hypocritical.

Indeed, you and I have had our differences, Melody. That does not mean I love you any less. I'm sorry to see you go and I hope you can find the re-definition of life without DU that you're seeking. Take care.

34. I don't know about deleting an account...

If you want to make it so that you won't be tempted to log back in, you could log on and have a friend change your password so that you could not log back on again.

There is no way to remove your old posts, though - those are archived - so evidence of your old account will still exist.

The admins would probably be willing to tombstone you upon request, but they likely don't have a "delete account" function because too many people would delete themselves and then decide they wanted to be undeleted a few days later.

I am sorry you are going, but I can understand your discomfort here. In my opinion, the snark level has risen by a power function over the past year or so. I don't think it is just the primary battle - I think that the tone has changed. I've been guilty of "jumping on the bandwagon" occasionally but I try to keep my posts respectful. Often that means that I don't get a response -- snark gets replies and I think that is the reinforcement that contributes to nastiness. The more people who stick around who refuse to participate in the snark and who contribute thoughtful posts then the better things will get.

I've been here since spring 2000 hence the unfortunate screen name. Since 2006 I've limited myself to one post every 3 or 4 months when while lurking I see the opportunity to say something pithy. DU comes in so many flavors and has so many resources like the lounge, cooking and baking group, science in the topics group, etc. that it would seem a shame not to be able to post if you chose to. GD is an ugly place to hold a conversation and there's too many kids with media only information not to mention the paid trolls from both parties as well as from both campaigns. Best to just stay away, there's lots of others to steer clear of too, like IP.

I'm curious though why you don't just stop coming here and it's your posts you want deleted. If you're trying to cover your tracks or disassociate yourself from the board it's too late. Google "melody democraticunderground", you all the rest of us have been cybered.
