Time to throw down

This country has paid an unbearable price for electing a person with questionable intelligence to two terms in the White House. That mistake should never be repeated.

But here we are on the brink again. One of the candidates is obviously in similar mental peril.

Sen. John McCain was admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy because his father and grandfather were admirals. He graduated fifth from the bottom of his class.

1. That's an 83 year old with guts and brains!
It would be hilarious to find out he beat McCain on an IQ test!

36. you are aware
of the term 'legacy", are you not?

bush was "admitted", also.

You're being intentionally naive to support your candidate, who will be no less a tool than bush is now.

2. there are differences
junior was refused admittance into the UT school of law. He got into Yale on the coattails of his father.

mccain got into the Naval Academy and did graduate. Give him credit for that.

...five years of hell in the Hanoi Hilton.

That's going to carry a lot of weight with the blue collar oldsters in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. You watch.

8. It will get him some votes but he is too close to bush and bush's anti
Soc Sec policies. He will be tied to the lobbyist who have made life for the blue collar a living hell. We will be able to target each lobbyist on his campaign staff, forcing him to fire them one by one.

10. Not Likely...
...and Obama can't win Ohio and Pennsylvania anyhow, for obvious reasons.

Begala knows that. That's why he made the comment about "African Americans and eggheads".

McCain will be a one-termer, Hillary will run again in 2012 and we may very well end up with her then.

Someone said she's already hiring!

11. McCain doesn't have the money or support within his party. The Reps have
already accepted defeat and are already looking within to see why they are having their asses handed to them.

McCain makes Dole look good.

12. Clinton...
...won against Dole in 1996 because he could win in the south. Obama can't do that.

Once again, the secret is in the south. It's always about the south.

It'll be McCain, just like I said...and for the reasons I said. After that, we get Hillary.

Democrats have to find a way to come to terms with the whole God thing. Over and over we've seen it.

13. There's several factors you are missing. Obama is strong in the midwest and
west, including the old slave states the Reps depended on. Also we are not doing that tired old 15 state strategy. It left too much to chance and it allowed the Reps to slide in the red states and put their money into a few toss up states to defeat us. Now the Reps have to defend all states, and they just don't have the money this cycle. We have the money and enthusiasm, they don't.

14. Yep...
...that's exactly what Susan Estrich said about Dukakis in 1988, after Iran-Contra.

Now she's saying Obama could end up like Dukakis because of the whole elitism thing.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

21. All they gotta do is remind people of...
...James Stockdale.

McCain may have served, he may have been held captive, but he was not alone (as the story of Stockdale reminds us), but that does not excuse him from his shameful behavior he is engaging in now.

20. He Did...
Edited on Thu May-15-08 09:41 PM by N4457S
...so poorly because of the number of demerits he accumulated, and that happened because of his drinking and rebellious behavior.

He hated the Navy but he served because that's what was expected of him. He was a so-so student, a so-so seaman and a so-so pilot. He was a flight instructor for awhile and I would have hated to be his student.

The only thing he's good at is drinking and schmoozing the women. That's why he made a decent politician.

McCain has a history of this. His tantrums as a toddler were so severe that his mother used to fill the bathtub with ice water and drop him in it when he got out of control. That's what the pediatrician told her to do.

That's a true story!

29. I disagree
He graduated. Give him credit for that. He is no Wes Clark - #1 in his class. But he did graduate from a prestigious college. I am sure there are a lot here on this site who can relate to an undergraduate who probably partied more than studied. And I am sure there are a lot who have gone on to graduate degrees and successful careers.

That is all I am saying.

Lets go after his misguided beliefs and direction. This is not a winning argument. Look at 2000 and 2004. It made junior more approachable and less-elist - like he had a life beyond the classroom. There are a lot of voters who consider that a plus.

30. Yeah...
...I was one of those who didn't do that well in his undergrad, got an entry level corporate job and then went back for technical training in a hot field.

Today, I do highly specialized systems administration (unix on big iron, virtualization, etc) and while I work an awful lot, I'm happier than a pig in shit. I go to school about five times a year and get paid for it.

I make a decent buck doing something I like. That was something my dad didn't get to do.

37. I'll give him his due
He got a congressional appointment.

Some do because they're intellectually superior. mccain obviously isn't one of those.

He was born to influence, and learned to use his every opportunity to elevate himself.

He's a lackey, no less than bush.

You'll excuse me, but I've wasted enough time discussing a fool.
