Bush's Hitler of the Day - Didn't Bush Invoke Hitler To Justify Invading Iraq?
Edited on Thu May-15-08 12:55 PM by Median Democrat
George Bush keeps going to the Hitler comparisons because they have worked so well for him in the past. Remember how Bush's comparisons of Saddam Hussein to Hitler were used to justify the invasion of Iraq to prevent Iraq from developing WMDs:

Now, it appears that Iran is being nominated by Bush as the Hitler of the Day (HOTD). Also, was Quaddafi at one time a HOTD? The one thing that does worry me is that by tabbing Iran's President as the HOTD, does that mean that an invasion of Iran is imminent.

The HOTD designation is a pretty powerful arrow in Bush's quiver, because it even causes Democrats to shake at their knees and vote to authorize wars. Once the HOTD tag is used, questions stop being asked, the Scooter Libby types get free reign to break laws as they see fit, and our Nation gets to invade countries to capture their natural resources.

If anything, shouldn't the HOTD tag be used on the leaders of Myramar who are essentially engaging in the genocide of their own people by denying relief to the thousands of victims of the recent cyclone. However, there is no oil, so Bush has to be judicious in his use of the HOTD tag. Its like a Get Out of Jail card.

1. I only have issue with you post inasmuch
USA's adminstration also refused to accept substantial International aid which was offered when the hurricane hit New Orleans and the levees were breached. Hence it must follow that the USA's admin is infact little different in that respect from Burma.

2. "Bush compared the challenge of the Iraqi President to the Nazi invasion"
Okay, does anyone else notice that George Bush's Hitler comparisons have blown up in his face before? I think this is a great opportunity to illustrate how the President/McCain rely on HOTD to overstate threats, incite fear, and justify wars. Most Americans think that invading Iraq was a mistake, and Bush has used the HOTD references to justify his policy of preemptive war. If Bush wants to open this door, I say lets revisit his prior uses of the HOTD tag, and how effective and real those threats actually were.

3. It seems like people are finally starting to see through the rhetoric
By the way, whenever I see the tag HOTD the first thing that pops into my head is "House of the Dead" Am I playing too many video games?

4. Alternet - "This Guy Is A Modern Day Hitler"
Here is a nice article tracing George Bush's use of the Hitler imagery to justify invading Iraq. However, we have to give credit where credit is due, Bush is apparently going to score a double in that he will use the Hitler references to justify two wars, whereas prior presidents were more or less stuck at one.
