What do you think?

1. McCain... Son of Cain .... Enoch, Son of Cain
Edited on Thu May-15-08 01:17 PM by IanDB1
Enoch, Son of Cain
From BibleWiki

The eldest son of Cain (Gen 4:17), who built a city east of Eden in the land of Nod, and called it "after the name of his son Enoch." This is the first "city" mentioned in the Bible
http://bible.tmtm.com/wiki/Enoch,_Son_of_Cain

"Enoch also, the seventh from Adam"
Jude says Enoch, "the seventh from Adam", prophesied that God would come with 10,000 of his saints "to execute judgment upon all." But this prophecy is from the Book of Enoch (which the author considered scripture and believed was written by Enoch), not from the Bible.
Was Enoch the seventh from Adam?

The Mark of Cain

And the LORD set a mark upon Cain .... -- Genesis 4:15

Until the 1978 revelation to Mormon President, Spencer W. Kimball, black men were not allowed to hold the priesthood. This was based, in part, on Genesis 4:15, where God placed a mark on Cain after he had killed his brother Abel. Joseph Smith and later LDS leaders interpreted the "mark upon Cain" to be turning of Cain's skin (and that of all his descendents) black.

It should be noted, however, that Mormons were not alone in this interpretation of Gen.4:15. Many Protestant denominations at the time Joseph Smith founded the LDS Church (1830) had the same racist understanding of the "mark of Cain."

2. and all you'll do is piss off a lot of Scots who will call you racist
Have you actually researched the McCain name? It may be a variant of a much larger clan that will take offense in the wrong way.

6. cute -- forgot the rimshot?
In all seriousness, before you go wanking off about a play on his surname, research it. Many here on DU went apeshit when the Freepers were doing the EXACT SAME THING about Obama's middle name.

We ARE supposed to be the ones who take the higher ground, yes? Or is that only when our side is being slammed?

Still, coincidences matter to people who believe they have an invisible friend in the sky.

12. Lets see, after McInsane, McSame, McNasty...you want to beat me up for playing this game...
you are a caricature of the milqetoast that makes conservatives vote against Dems time and again. Oh, please -- we can't make a mockery of this hypocritcal liar who got on his knees to fundamentalists?

The Hussein/Osama thing was meant to promote the lie that Obama is a Moslem or a terrorist. It was neither obviously a parody nor meant as humor. Has your objection made the corporate media and the GOP operatives stop doing that? No. So, I'm with the Sean Connery character from "The Untouchables":

He puts one of our guys in the hospital; you put two of his guys in the morque.

Fight back; its all they understand.

16. ooohhh, can't take on the title you deserve?
Hypocrite.

It stings doesn't it, when called on the SAME ACTIONS many hear in DU RAGED about not so long ago, being utilized by the repukes? Forgot those soapbox days?

The party of change has INDEED learned from the thugs, and is using the same tools. So where EXACTLY is the CHANGE? Where exactly is the HOPE when all you've learned is how to *ape* the ones in power? Is this how you're going to win the *hearts and minds* of people -- how you are going to CHANGE the system?

CHANGE. Look up the definition. It's OBVIOUS you need a refresher course in it.

Now comes up as the number-one entry on Google!:

4. Point taken, but every clan has its black sheep. (Now, I've gone and offended blacks. Dang.)...
Look, I really think that your concern is a little bit much. Its like if I said Dickson meant son of Dick and all the Brits took offense.

I find your scenario unlikely.

11. I agree. But I think it might have an appropriate place to be used as a "So What" argument.
"Your candidate's middle name is Hussein! That means he's a terrorist!"

"So what? Your candidate's last name is McCain, which means Son of Cain. Do you think he's descended from Cain?"

"The names Barack Hussein and Obama all have six letters in them!"

"Uhm, no... they don't."

"Yes, they do! Sean Hannity said so!"

"Have you tried counting them yourself?"

"What are you? Some kinda gay commie liberal muslim extremist?"

"Damn. You caught me. How'd you guess?"

5. Not his fault. It's true. The etymology website says so
Edited on Thu May-15-08 01:22 PM by IanDB1
elder son of Adam and Eve, from Heb. Qayin, lit. "created one," also "smith," from Sem. stem q-y-n "to form, to fashion." To raise Cain is first recorded 1840. Surnames McCain, McCann, etc., are a contraction of Ir. Mac Cathan "son of Cathan," from Celt. cathan, lit. "warrior," from cath "battle."
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=Cain

Actually, it says he's wrong about the INTENDED meaning of the word McCain.

But if god chose to give him a name which CAN mean "Son of Cain," then it's just as important as if god had given him a name in which the numbers add up to 666, or if god gave him the middle name "Hussein."

14. John McCain was a bomber pilot. A "Prince of the Power of the Air"
"Prince of the Power of The Air" is one of the names "The" Bible uses for Satan:

Prince of the Power of the Air
Ephesians 2:2

Also, McCain was shot-down (Fell from Heaven) and was captured and tortured (Banished to Hell)
