2. Ah, the good old Electoral College
which was designed to find the best man for the job, and not be besmirched by political parties--lasted until the little problem in 1800, which resulted in the 12th Amendment.....

4. That is a Fascinating Site
I went through all the elections looking at the percentages and geographical breakdowns. A lot of multiparty elections, minority presidents, and other odd things. Incumbents didn't gain as much as I would have expected when they ran again.

On the lighter side, in 1904 the middle name of the Democratic VP candidate was "Gassaway" -- sounds like a stomach remedy.
