1. Thank you.
I was married for more than twenty years and everybody thought it was wonderful. Then I fell in love with a woman and suddenly I'm worse than dirt to the right-wingers.

2. Question: The couples that got married in 2004...
...are they now legally married or do they have to do it all again?

3. I know several states recognize civil unions, but this makes just
California and Massachusetts that have legalized marriage, correct?

So, do the two states recognize each others' marriages as valid?

12. Another question. My sister and her partner got married in a church
ceremony last year. Of course, this state won't recognize it - but would CA or MA recognize it as valid, despite having no blessing from the state? Or is it only states which have legalized it - IOW, if they moved, would they need a second ceremony?

14. How to Get Married in Massachusetts - Non-Massachusetts Residents
Edited on Thu May-15-08 03:04 PM by Breeze54
State law

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_States

See Same-sex marriage legislation in the United States by state

Massachusetts has recognized same-sex marriage since 2004, though this only affects state law; the U.S. federal government does not recognize same-sex marriages in Massachusetts as being marriages under federal law.

Connecticut, Vermont, New Jersey, and New Hampshire have created legal unions that, while not called marriages, are explicitly defined as offering all the rights and responsibilities of marriage under state (though not federal) law to same-sex couples. Maine, Hawaii, the District of Columbia, Oregon and Washington have created legal unions for same-sex couples that offer varying subsets of the rights and responsibilities of marriage under the laws of those jurisdictions.

On May 15, 2008 the California Supreme Court ruled that limiting marriage between only "one man and one women" is unconstitutional, effectively legalizing same-sex marriage in California.<1><2>

* How will the clerks determine whether I reside in MA?
* What if I am a resident of more than one state?
* Should I pretend that I am a MA resident?
* What if I disclose that I am a resident of another state, and the clerk grants me a license anyway?
* What if I do have plans to move to MA in the near future?

13. NY Courts just ruled
they will recognize out of state gay marriages, civil unions, and domestic partnerships.

Now how about NY ruling for gay marriage INSIDE the state? This was campaign pledge of Spitzer. I hope Patterson takes up the cause.

I am, unfortunately, in Florida now where a state constitutional ban on gay marriages will be on the November ballot. I will definitely vote NO, but it probably will still pass in this 17th Century state.

There was even an interview with a straight, married, "christian" couple (OLD) who said it is a sin against God for straight people NOT to marry and have kids.

This state is unbelievable.
