Sheriff Joe Arpaio (corrupt-AZ) launches Pennies for Posse" after Gov. cuts funding; throws hissy
Edited on Thu May-15-08 03:35 PM by blondeatlast
"Pennies for the Posse"--I kid you not.

On KTAR’s Gaydos After Dark talk radio program Wednesday night, Arpaio launched his “Pennies for the Posse” fundraising program in response to Gov. Janet Napolitano’s decision to order the state to end and anti-undocumented immigration contract with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

“If you think you’re going to cut my head off by taking away my money, the money that the legislature gave to me to enforce the human smuggling law, (it’s) not going to work,” said Arpaio. “But you know what? I’m going to get the money back, and I promise you one thing, I’m going to get more of that money back.”

KTAR.com will keep a link up for “Pennies for the Posse” in which people can contribute money to the Arpaio’s efforts to continue enforcing undocumented immigration.

(snip)

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, there are about 59,000 outstanding, unserved felony warrants in the state. The majority of those are in Maricopa County.

4. The story outlines it, but in a nutshell:
Edited on Thu May-15-08 03:32 PM by blondeatlast
*Arresting journalists who have published negative stories about him (yes, for real)
*Colluding with MC prosecutor to harrass political opponents
*Massive mismanagement of taxpayer dollars (he's bought a tank and numerous over-the-top air and land equipment
*Several unnecessary deaths at his jails leading to millions of taxpayer dollars going to settle wrongful death suits
*Amnesty International has declared MCSO detention facilities as massive human rights violators
*Now, he wants authorization to read the Phoenix mayor (again, a political opponent)'s e-mail
*More, more, more

If you want to know more, look up Phoenix New Times and simply type in Arpaio. they have consistently covered his exploits and it was their editor and publisher who Arpaio arrested.

Edit: New Times link: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/

ANY issue is guaranteed to have one or more stories covering this jerk's corruption and downright cruelty.

8. are there even 59,000 people living in Maricop County?
sheesh, that seems like a lot of "outstanding, UNSERVED, felony warrants for a state with that kind of population. Are they all for "undocumented" immigrants?

11. Why not call it "Change for the Chain Gang"?
That's right, chain gangs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio#Chain_gangs

Shortly after taking office, Arpaio reinstituted chain gangs, the controversial form of inmate labor which had been virtually eliminated in the United States.

Arpaio believes that chain gangs are not a form of punishment, but of rehabilitation. Inmates who are low-risk but with a history of jail incidents can apply to serve as free labor. Inmates work eight-hours a day, six days a week (Sundays off), mainly outside. The inmates wear traditional black-and-white striped uniforms (see below for more details) with a cap to protect against the desert heat. Inmates perform such tasks as creating fire breaks, removing trash, and burying deceased indigent persons in the county cemetery.

Arpaio also expanded the chain gang concept by instituting the world's first female chain gang. Female inmates work seven hours a day (7 AM to 2 PM), six days a week. Arpaio has also instituted the world's first all-juvenile chain gang.

That's the sound of the men (and women and children) working on the chain, ga-a-ang; that's the sound of the men (and women and children) working on the chain, gang. :grr: :banghead:

They seem to appreciate it...

I hope the rest of America realizes that an awful lot of those on the gangS HVAN'T EVEN GONE TO TRIAL!
