Radio station’s cheap gas promotion cut short

By ROBERT A. CRONKLETON

ROBERT A. CRONKLETON | The Star

The lure of cheap gas proved to be too popular this morning and authorities decided to prematurely end a radio station’s promotion.

Radio station Q104 gave drivers a break by selling gas for $1.04 a gallon at the GasMart USA, 1203 Armour Road in North Kansas City.

The promotion was supposed to go to the first 104 vehicles with each person receiving up to 10 gallons of gas. Shortly after 7 a.m., traffic was backed up several blocks to Howell Street.

About 30 minutes later, police decided to cut the promotion short at 65 cars because of too many traffic issues on Armour Road.
