Huckabee: "If the captain of the football team were to invite me to the prom..."
Huckabee: The Lessons of My Campaign

The former GOP candidate on McCain, conservatives, and whether he wants to be Veep

It's said that you're now atop his list of potential running mates. Have you gotten any sense that you might be a likely candidate?

That's again just pure speculation that I don't want to be a part of. No one has contacted me or indicated any of that to me. I'm just focused on getting him elected.

If it was offered to you, would you accept?

It's impolite to start saying that if the captain of the football team were to invite me to the prom, that I already have a dress picked out. Again, my job right now is to get him elected.

5. Didn't Jack Kemp Wear A Prom Dress?

Yep...Hucklenutz wants to join the list of greats: Bill Miller (Steph's dad), Bob Dole ('76 version), Dan Quayle and others into political oblivion.

Methinks he's playing the "good soldier" in hopes to position himself to pick up some of the pieces once Gramps and the party implodes. He knows his party is in deep doo-doo and pretends to be "on the team" while quietly fanning the stink. The same goes for Mittens. They've got nothing better to do for the rest of the summer and by being second banana they take the fall, but not the blame.

Gramps is gonna have a tough call on picking a veep...if either Hucklenutz or Mittens were that valuable, they would have done better in the primaries and neither really brings much to the ticket (Gramps gains Arkansas???). Hucklenutz may bring the fundies, but Mittens brings the big money...what's a wedged party to do???

NO, "having a dress picked out" means you're ready and you've been looking forward to the prom.

It should have read:

It's impolite to start saying if the captain of the football team were to invite me to the prom, that I already knew he was going to ask me. Again, my job right now is to get him elected.

It would have provided the allusion to presumptuousness he was looking for.

But then, Mike isn't much with the laughs these days, eh?
