than to DO anything to help Democrats win. Contribute money. Make phone calls if you don't have money. Volunteer locally if you can't make calls due to the cost. Whatever. Always an excuse.

The responses/excuses here are pathetic. I'm sorry but they are.

If we can't do better than this, we're inviting defeat. I can just HEAR the whining after the fact now.

BUT - when the time came to kick our asses into gear and help a Dem candidate win, we whined, and made excuses about
Howard Dean, made snarky remarks about how "we've already won", etc.

We haven't WON a goddamned thing, folks. And there's a LONG WAY to go.

WHAT DID YOU DO to help your party / our nominee today besides sit on DU and make excuses NOT to?

Huh.

OK - I know this thread will be locked - so lock it. I've said my piece.

1. Have given some to Obama, but prefer to keep my money local
We have a limited amount to give. We determined long ago that we felt that could be best donated locally. This year we will be giving to the local state senate race and sheriff's race. We will also be working for these candidates.

4. Tomorrow's my door-knocking, phone calling, standing on a street corner day.
So, you will not see me here tomorrow, nor Monday night.

Saturdays are the only day I have available for house-cleaning, so I entertain myself here between tasks.

BUT - even if you were a little rough in how you went about it - Thank you for saying something that NEEDS to be said on a regular basis.

:hi:

5. I would have given but
I just can't stand Obama. Oh yea, I gave several hundred dollars to some other candidate who I prefer. And I still need to order the parts for my new computer build. I also need a couple of new guns, so the 0-man is just not one of my priorities for the foreseeable future.

10. Two points:
1. Why would I donate to or campaign for a candidate I don't now, and never have, supported?

2. Why isn't this in GDP?

11. The only thing I'm giving to Obama is my vote.
I will not fall prey to a guilt trip to make me donate to a candidate that I only tolerate.

And before I get accused of being a Hillbot, I would say the same thing if she were the nominee.

12. What makes you think I don't
Edited on Sat May-17-08 06:28 PM by Juche
I donate to various politicians and democrat/progressive organizations including various voter registration efforts. I consider myself too shy to register voters in person but I'm sure between now and nov 4th I will give it a try at least once. I can probably hook up with an Obama headquarters 30 miles from where I live on a day off.

I've also encouraged my GOP family members to vote libertarian this election whenever we talk politics, using their disgust with McCain to encourage them to vote lib instead. The Nader effect comes full circle motherfuckers.

Probably doesn't count for much, but I 'advertise' with an Obama shirt and am going to try to see if/how I can help Barry Welsh in my district. Even though it sounds stupid, I wouldn't be suprised if yard signs, shirts, buttons or bumper stickers play some role in voter turnout just by constantly reminding people that they have a responsibility to vote. I know for every 100 calls that are made to vote, about 4 lead to a new voter and another 4 lead to a spillover effect (someone in the household votes due to the call aside from the recipient).

I do my part. If 10 million democrats (1/6 of the party) donated $200 this election cycle ($15-20/month for the year) that is 2 billion right there. I am giving far more than $200 this cycle as this is a groundbreaking cycle. I have set a goal of personally registering 50 voters in Ohio before November 4th, but we'll see if that happens.
