President Bush insults Rabin's memory before Knesset

"You don't make peace with friends. You make it with very unsavory enemies." -Yitzhak Rabin

President Bush's remarks before the Knesset on Israel's 60th anniversary are now infamous. By this point, everyone knows that this attempt to link the idea of talking with enemies to the idea of appeasement, a process which involved giving away half of Czechoslavakia, is both silly and dishonest, a cheap ploy on the part of the Republican machine to equate diplomacy as such with the biggest mistakes of the Chamberlain Government. What hasn't been mentioned so much is what Bush's comments seem to say about the Middle East Peace Process, to which he claims to remain committed. The peace process, which has been stalled or moving backwards for almost the whole of Bush's term in office, was largely built on Prime Minister Rabin's difficult decision to deal directly with Yasir Arafat. At the time, Arafat was viewed much as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ismail Haniyeh are viewed today.

1.  Bush basks in Israel's love
Just about every moment appeared to be devoted to mutual expressions of admiration and friendship, which also offered Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert a respite from the latest police graft investigation against him.

His speech to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, drew him standing ovations and earned him ecstatic praise from right-wing parties.

"It was a Zionist speech in the full sense of the word," said former foreign minister Silvan Shalom, of the Likud party. "His speech was the speech of a member of the National Religious Party," NRP chairman Zvulun Orlev said, according to the Maariv daily.

4. Israel is a client state of the US.
We are literally its only defender on the planet. The government of Israel has no choice in this. It cannot sever relations with the US.

That is somewhat different from "love." Which you meant as an insult to Israel.

5. I didn't write Breitbarts headline...so please go level false accusations
at someone else.

As for lessons on the Israeli govt., it's always interesting to see others perspective.

...based on a study of Israeli women.. a vast majority said they would rather shop than have sex...
the Arab women on the other hand have no choice in the matter of choosing to have sex or not and there is no Sharia law describing spousal rape.. thus their birth rate is much higher
