Security guard, restaurant owner use Tasers on each other
http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=91986

BOULDER – Police say the manager of a Mexican restaurant and a security guard used Tasers on each other after getting in an argument over a traffic violation.

According to Boulder Police, a security guard with Colorado Security was putting a boot on a car belonging to the manager of Mamacitas Restaurant, located at 1149 13th Street on University Hill, when the manager came out of the restaurant and started arguing with him. The car was parked near the restaurant.

The manager, identified as Harvey Epstein, then went inside, got some bolt cutters and threatened to cut the boot off, according to police. That's when the security guard pulled out a Taser and used it on Epstein. Police say Epstein then pulled out his own Taser and used it on the security guard.

Boulder Police arrested Harvey Epstein. He's being charged with felony menacing and use of a stun gun.

Now why do I find this funny?

2. LOL That part of Boulder is called "The Hill"
Maybe instead of couch burning (don't ask) the new thing will be Taser Wars!

BTW what kind of Mexican restaurant is managed by a guy named Epstein?

15. Good food!
One that serves authentic recipes from Puebla (from whence Carmen comes) made without lard or microwaves. The chicken milanese and chicken mole are awesome. The house margaritas are good. A reasonable selection of micro-brews are on draft so beer drinkers aren't stuck with Negra Modelo.

It's family owned by Carmen Epstein and her sons Jay and Harvey.

Good food, good prices, good service; you couldn't ask for more except good parking although it's Boulder where you should bike, hike, or bus to eat. Especially with the Colorado Driving While Ability Impaired law which imposes a .05% BAC limit.

3. I'm imagining the restaurant owner got tired of moving his car every 2 hrs
In order to comply with city parking laws. Cities need to wake up and quit treating business owners and employees the same as shoppers and tourists.

I've had friends who didn't chef at places they really liked - the thought of interrupting their work to go and legally re-park all day long would have been too weird.

And if a person doesn't comply then there are tickets to pay.

6. Boulder is pretty strict on parking too.
Not a lot of monthly parking in that area and it's hella expensive. I'm surprised that a Security Guard could legally boot a car unless it was in a clearly marked area.

5. Cause it happened in Boulder?
Just kidding! Sorry--long-time Coloradan here, used to love visiting friends attending CU (early 60s), and have many pleasant memories of beautiful Boulder and the gorgeous CU campus.

Actually, this story is kinda funny, but I have a rather perverse sense of humor. Guess I envisioned the whole episode unfolding before my eyes--an Old West shoot-out more a propos to maybe Central City, Blackhawk, Leadville, one of those mountain towns.

Cheers to my old home town of Denver!

9. Boulder is beautiful but deserves it's rep
I had the misfortune of having to sit in on their City Council meetings for about 6 months while they were moving to a new building. I'll say one thing. It was interesting. Some of the proposals from the public had me rolling my eyes but the council had it's heart in the right place and duly noted and thanked them all.

It is a beautiful city. It's one of the most liberal cities in America and they have done a lot to keep it beautiful with open space legislation, etc. It's also a magnet for some very "interesting" people. :)

11. Hold on.. The story changes and gets better....
http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2008/may/18/men-tase-each-other-on-uni-hill/

Sgt. Pat Wyton said Casey Dane, a private security guard working for Colorado Security, was in an ally behind the Mamacitas restaurant, 1149 13th St., and got into a heated argument with another man whose car had been booted for parking illegally.

The owner of the car, Harvey Epstein, a bartender at the Mexican restaurant, left to retrieve a set of bolt cutters, Wyton said, and then returned to the vehicle to try to pry off the boot. When he returned, about 7 p.m., Dane allegedly ordered him to drop the cutters or he would shoot him with a gas-propelled Taser device because he felt threatened.

The guard, Wyton said, "decided to shoot the guy."

But what the guard didn't know, Wyton said, was that Epstein also had the same type of Taser in his pocket -- which he then used on Dane.

Oh why didn't someone get this on video!!

13. I'm leaning toward Harvy Epstein here.
Cities need to realize that people need to get to work and therefore need transportation back and forth. The city needs to provide parking somewhere and proper bus service.
I blame the city. The rent-a-cops as a group are a little too testosterone driven and under trained to be trusted in a 'situation'.

14. I hope the authorities see the situation the way you and I see it
Somehow, even in Enlightened Boulder, I don't know if the restaurant owner will prevail.
