Ballmer Vs. The Egg Tosser (MSFT)
Vasanth Sridharan | May 19, 2008 4:32 PM

Microsoft (MSFT) is the company plenty of people love to hate. But they generally don't demonstrate it the way that this Hungarian numbskull did -- standing up in the middle of a talk Steve Ballmer was giving at a university, throwing eggs at the CEO and imploring him on behalf of "the Hungarian people" to "give that money back!" (we presume, it's hard to tell exactly what he's yelling).

General consensus on the Web is that this is hilarious. And it is sort of funny, once you realize that the guy isn't trying to actually, you know, harm Ballmer. Because he could have, right? Anyway, we think Ballmer handles the whole thing pretty well.

1. That was funny. The look on Ballmar's face when he pops up
from behind his podium was classic.

2. MicroSerf is a company that has hindered many a development

With non-open code, they prevent people who would normally be able to create radically new software from doing new things.

In places like Hungary, where people are used to innovating (As first a response to getting around the restrictions of the old Soviet Union, and now just because it is factored into their blood)

They resent the MicroSerf rstrictive lack of innovation. Good for them.

8. No kidding

As an early user of PC's (going back to DOS 3.3), I've seen SO MANY fantastic ideas consumed by Microsoft and incorporated into their Borg-like uniformity.

Then they slap more and more restrictive (read:expensive) licensing "protections" onto the aforementioned great ideas, stifling REAL development.

They were hated then. And today, they're the "only game in town" for people who know little about computers.

3. Ballmer only handled it well because a chair wasn't within easy reach...
You don't want to see him angry!

4. That's no way to treat a representative of the most powerful nation
on earth. I mean, don't they want to meet with us?? Heh.

6. I've always hated Ballmer
He is probably the one who drove Micro$oft the most towrds total corporate whoredom, in my opinion.

He's a total tool of the financial bean-counters and the "changing paradigm" weasels who want to get rich over anything else.

I've always AVOIDED buying M$oft products, but was forced to buy XP recently because of sheer pressure from my family.

I'm regretting it even now.
