Does your mailman park at the corner and walk thte route to save gas?

Mine does and doggone it, he dropped two bills in my driveway that were being mailed out by a neighbor from across the street. Luckily the North wind was not blowing or those bills would have ended up under the bushes with all the leaves and trash that blows in on windy days.

One of them seemed to be a payment to a mortgage company and the other a phone bill. My son took them down the street to the sender. She was very grateful!!!

Also, in my mailbox was THE check from the US Treasury Dept.

4. That would be impossible in the boonies where I live
Instead, the meth-heads around here shoot the locks out of the metal postal boxes at the end of the road so they can steal and bleach checks.

8. We Live On What Used To Be A "Rural Route"
Our mailboxes are all on one side of a county road; for us, the wrong side. I walk down a 75-foot driveway and then have to take my life in my hands (a la "Pet Sematary") to cross for the junk mail and unwanted phone books.

I almost never leave outgoing mail there with the flag up; certainly, nothing important.

5. It's called 'Park & Loop'
Carriers have been doing this since they began using individual vehicles on their routes in the 60s, unless your street has individual curbside boxes.

7. They've Always Done That On Foot Routes
Has nothing to do with the current gas situation. And yes, (incoming and outgoing) mail can and does get dropped, just as easily as it gets put in the wrong person's mailbox.

I hope your neighbor called the local postmaster and gave them an earful. But truthfully, she would have been better off by light years making those payments electronically or by phone these days.
