They love the old WWII image of our soldiers. Fearless, Gung-ho, UNCOMPLAINING, and white.

When faced with a real, broken, wounded, human being they do not see John Wayne, they see a sick guy who wants some some money for just laying around. Or a coward for refusing to go on another tour because his mind is broken from the despair he has witnessed.

They want automatons, it pisses them off when they get humans instead.
