BUSHCO's 'Secret List Of 8 million UNFRIENDLY American Citizens' To Be Detained Under Martial Law

Is the government compiling a secret list of citizens to detain under martial law?

By Christopher Ketcham

http://www.radaronline.com/from-the-magazine/2008/05/government_surveillance_homeland_security_main_core_01-print.php

The Continuity of Governance program encompasses national emergency plans that would trigger the takeover of the country by extra-constitutional forces. In short, it's a road map for martial law

There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived 'enemies of the state' almost instantaneously."

... a number of former government employees and intelligence sources with independent knowledge of domestic surveillance operations claim the program that caused the flap between Comey and the White House was related to a database of Americans who might be considered potential threats in the event of a national emergency. Sources familiar with the program say that the government's data gathering has been overzealous and probably conducted in violation of federal law and the protection from unreasonable search and seizure guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment.

According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, "There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived 'enemies of the state' almost instantaneously." He and other sources tell Radar that the database is sometimes referred to by the code name Main Core. One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.

Sounds like the PERFECT place to put a prison camp. Lots and LOTS of open area, and plenty of work farming the famous Walla Walla Sweet onions--which are MUCH better than the overpromoted Vidalia, and they come from a state that goes blue in presidential elections unlike those inferior red-state onions.

DC cops to carry assault rifles
Cops with rifles to hit streets this summer
By David C. Lipscomb
May 9, 2008

Metropolitan Police Department officials said yesterday patrol officers will be issued assault rifles by the summer, after policies on their use are released this month.

The Washington Times reported Wednesday that the department is arming the officers with the rifles as part of a national trend to protect them from criminals with increasingly powerful weapons.

Assistant Chief Joshua Ederheimer said the department has spent the past year converting 500 AR-15 rifles from fully-automatic to semi-automatic and drafting training curriculum and policies governing the weapons.

What makes you so certain?

In light of everything they have done, what makes it so certain? Have you read the legislation they have passed? Do you understand the scope of what they have constructed? Do understand how far they have pushed the envelope? The Military Commissions Act ALONE is enough to set all systems to Red Alert.

The most honest thing ANYONE on this board can say is that we HOPE that SOMEHOW they don't go through with it NOW.

That is why they must be held accountable for their crimes. So that four or eight years from now, they do not crawl out of the walls and finish the job.

I have no proof except that for all the signing statements and all their networks, they could not even maintain their hold on Congress.

For all their so called power, they just lost three safe Rethug seats.

For all their power there are many powerful men who no longer support them.

95. Thank you, malaise.
In all the Bushco comparisons to Hitler's rise on DU (which are worthy comparisons), I began to realize that there is a critical difference (or 2) here.

One is that Bush is as unpopular as it's possible to be now. He is down to the illiterate/hermit/background-noise level of popularity in the polls. I find that I can criticize Bush to my military friends at work - and while they don't chime in, they do nod sheepishly when I say that I support the military - but the civilian leadership has to go.

Secondly, the traditional couch-potato lethargy and isolation that is America will leave any popular support for Bushco martial law still-born. We just don't have those beer-halls (or any other social "third-place") in which to foment radical, fascist uprisings.

Bush and Cheney may hold a lot of levers right now - but I am not so sure they are soundly connected to anything anymore.
And they hold those levers all by themselves. Their "cabal" is just a constantly churning parade of red-faced, guilty men leaving to "spend more time with their families".

We may be OK, now.

(This post marks an optimistic bookend to my earlier post in the poll about an attack on Iran. One does not exclude the other)

112. Too many people are now aware that the Emperor Has No Clothes...
"And exactly what proof exists that this would happen?"

(Actually, I think you're confusing the words 'evidence' and 'proof'... that aside)

3 seats lost by the Republicans in the past two weeks alone is some wonderfully dramatic evidence. If this paper-tiger of an administration were hellbent on retaining and consolidating power, it seems they've failed.

Too many people are now aware that the Emperor Has No Clothes... his own side has effectively disowned him. His architects of power are no longer in office.

Melodrama and bad movie plots aside, I'm supremely confident that there will be a Democrat in the White House come January, and much like the past 150 years, the reigns will pass peacefully.

that are the natural leaders, the rest of the population will submit like sheep. They didn't need a high ratio of guards at most of the death camps, only the camp where they sent the 'leaders'

No dictator is popular, what he is is smart enough to get the rabble rousers off the streets

and while I'm not buying ammo at this point, the plan laid out above would work. Most folks would continue their daily lives if they felt their families would be safer that way.

The same kind of rumors were going around about Bill Clinton. He was not going to go, he was going to declare marshal law, he was going to start a war, etc. I just don't see how they could get away with this. Even the republicans can't be that stupid to go along with a plan like this!

Bush has already done his damage, and sometimes I think they want a democrat to win so they can blame everything on the "new" president. It is not going to be easy to get this country back on track, and with all the crap that has happened it would be to their advantage to let the democrats win, and then keep telling the public by way of the MSM that the republicans own, how the democrats are screwing things up.

162. Or anywhere in Latin America
from the 1960s to the late 1980s.
In Chile, under Pinochet, the military would go in to towns, round up the Leftist political leaders, union organizers, etc., and simply take them out and shoot them. Nobody resisted. If you did, you died. This story was repeated throughout the region.

Upwards of 200000 civilians dead in Guatemala? How the hell do you accomplish that without civilian apathy and fear? You can't. Militaries and dictatorships know how to control, which is how they get power in the first place...but, we need to remember that dictators are sometimes elected and only take total control afterwards.

You hit the nail on the head exactly, and it always frustrates me to no end how so many think that in January '09 this tidal wave of change is going to sweep across the nation, and all of the things this cabal has done will just disappear like a bad memory.

They have gone to too much trouble to set this power structure up to not use it.

Nobody ever seems to ask the question "Why would they NOT use it?"

Why would they to go to this much length, this much trouble, this much risk, this much conquest, just to fade into the sunset and say "Aw shucks, I guess we don't get to play anymore."

So here is the bad news no one wants to face or deal with.

Unless something drastic happens within the next six months, they WILL get away with everything they have ever done, they will NEVER be held accountable, and they WILL walk away scott free, and it appears from the top of the leadership of this country to the most average American, WE WILL LET THEM.

If we do not hold them accountable, if we let them walk, they MAY go back into the wall like the cockroaches they are, however, whether it be four or eight years, THEY WILL BE BACK.

And they will more than likely finish the job next time.

Personally, I am very worried they are done waiting.

They are too close to their goal.

Why they would simply walk away I have no logical answer for.

Let us pray that logic does not win the day where they are concerned.

Because logically, there is no way they should want to leave power legally and peacefully.

35. Exactly what I meant...
Bullets are cheaper than feeding, housing, hiring guards to guard. It is the common solution taken by all tyrants. Round up those that disagree with you and kill them. Most humans will surrender their freedoms very quickly to a determined tyrant.

The only reason to actually try malcontents is for the propaganda victory. These 8 million are the enemy within. We try them on trumped up charges. Then kill them. But it is much easier and neater just to kill everyone without a trial.

Edited on Tue May-20-08 01:10 AM by warren pease
... On one hand, this entire snoop society makes me so furious I can never quite summon up the right words to characterize my outrage. So if I'm on one of their lists, I'm not really surprised, but I'm seriously pissed off.

On the other hand, if I'm NOT on a list, it means one of two things: Either I'm not working nearly hard enough at being a pain in the ass to the right people, or all the technology our taxes have paid over the years is mostly junk and can't do the job it was intended for.

So I'm a civil libertarian living in a total surveillance society and going gradually insane with rage and frustration. Or I'm a lightweight not fit for a real enemies list. Or all this stuff the NSA and the rest claim can pick up any conversation anywhere in the world, store it and then run it later on through something like Promis to check out the presence of key words... all that's hogwash and they're barely out of the 80286 processor era.

But on the real side, I post this about once a week because there seem to be a lot of people who've never heard of most of the stuff, or if they have, they're not seeing a pattern but just a series of discrete events. But a pattern is pretty well laid out, imo, and here's a post listing maybe 2/3 of the main pieces.

Here's the same information in case the link above isn't working:

We now have repressive legislation still awaiting final approval and Bushie's big red X, executive orders and presidential directives; massive federal invasions of privacy regarding medical and http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/23/washington/23intel.html?ex=1308715200&en=168d69d26685c26c&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss">financial records; monitoring US citizens' electronic communications; re-targeting spy satellites for domestic surveillance; the TSA cavity search specialists (for attractive young women only; the rest are presumed to pose no threat to the state); no-fly and terrorist watch lists; Halliburton/KBR's detention camps; RFIDs in all new passports and in the new national ID cards scheduled to be issued this year; new TSA "behavior detection officers" to spot those who don't "look quite right;" all this wonderful new stuff from the DHS; private armies featuring mercenaries from companies like Blackwater and SAIC springing up like mushrooms after a light rain... All that and the Patriot Act, the http://www.aclu.org/safefree/detention/commissions.html">Military Commissions Act, http://www.aclu.org/safefree/extraordinaryrendition/22203res20051206.html">extraordinary rendition (whatever the hell that means) and torture, too. (Note: the torture link is graphic and disgusting.)

Also, see the blockquote in this post, which is a small part of H.R. 1585, the fiscal year 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. Note the orders to prepare to use regular troops -- as opposed to the Guard or Reserves -- to respond to "natural disasters and terrorist events." In other words, martial law.

Given all the above, I think a reasonable person could conclude that martial law is in fact a strong possibility, without being branded a paranoid loon. But just in case that's not true, I'll be out by the lake practicing my bird calls for a while. If you're going to called a loon anyway, you might as well sound like one.

There is something basically wrong with this doomsday scenario. the only way it makes sense is if we are the ones doing the attacking.
Then it would make sense to put us away--maybe even in advance. You don't think they could get people to believe that hogwash do you?

oh yeah they will. Their target audience still believes that the WMDs got smuggled into Syria, that returning Vietnam vets got spat on by dirty hippies back in 68 and that Obama is a secret muslim.

107. Enough to populate Jesusland to overflowing and still have to annex Mexico to fit them all in.
Given that the country's now officially known as Dumbfuckistan, I guess there are, by definition, about 300 million Dumbfucks here.

As to how many of Dumbfuckistan's Dumbfucks are actually (lower case) dumbfucks, it's got to be well over half the population, maybe two-thirds. Maybe 97 percent.

It's got to be a high number because only a country absolutely infested with dumbfucks would put up with the Bushies two counts of grand theft election, the blithering idiots of the ministry of propaganda that mass media has become, the destruction of the economy, the massive transfer of wealth from bottom to top, the deaths or maimings of who knows how many active duty, reserve and Guard troops, the hideous "money talks and bullshit walks" medical non-system, the influence of an estimated 90 million religiously insane fundies screwing things up for everybody else, fascism at home, militarism, imperialism and mass murder abroad...

I'm too dumb to think of any more, but I'm sure they're out there.

And it'll be close in 2008 because our massuhs have perfected election theft over the past four. If you're unconvinced, read Mark Crispin Miller and/or Bobby Kennedy, Jr. on the subject.

They sort of lost in 2006 but if you look at what the majority party has accomplished and what it's scared to touch, the GOPiggies might as well have won in 2006, too.

When the opposition refuses to oppose, you've won by default. Thanks Nancy and Harry and the rest of you candy asses. May you be unceremoniously fired this November -- better yet, may your status be completely undermined by losses in the primaries to people like Shirley Golub, who really, REALLY wants to kick Pelosi's ass to Angel Island and back again.

I can't imagine a more satisfying sight than Pelosi sailing through the crystal blue skies over SF Bay, heading right for the trees and rocks on the island and screaming "OK! OK! It's back on the table..."

Too late, Nance. You're yesterday's news.

Only Dumbfucks would ramble on like this just to answer a very simple question. Duh...

by offing Obama. I hate to use those words, because it probably marks me as someone who has threatened him. But they can bomb Iran and only the usual suspects will be out in the streets - how much of the country will be cheering it on from their TV seats? Obama is the only thing big enough to provoke full-scale rioting. It's Charlie Manson's "Healter Skelter" all over again. That's what would give these fascists an excuse to declare martial law and initiate the Big Roundup - for our nation's own good.

154. Condescending tone aside, I'd ask you if in your heart of hearts you believe
that eight million people who are part of an armed populace (might I add, HEAVILY?) can be rounded up transported, and incarcerated. In this day and age. In the age when ideas and opinions are abundant and easily shared via electronic media. I'd also ask if you believe it would be, as you so smarmily put it, "child's play". Down deep. Where your most strongly held beliefs live, do you think eight million people are in dire jeopardy of being rounded up in the night, put on trains, and taken to detention centers? Do you really? Do you really believe it would be "child's play"?

I don't. Not for a minute. Most of my friends are armed. Most of my family is armed. That is to say they own guns rather than military weaponry. There are more guns in this country than there are people, and there are more bullets than human beings on this planet. In this country alone. So, you'll have a hard time convincing me that there are enough people employed by Big Brother to actually make it happen. Case in point: I live in a mountain community of about 14,000 people. There are three paved roads to get in and out. And hundreds of thousands of square miles of national forest surrounds us. 2/3 of us have guns.

If you spend time fearing the possibility that you're espousing, too bad for you. I don't. I will die in my home before they drag me out. I'm positive to the soles of my feet that there are tens of millions of people in this country who would tell you the same thing. Does your fear stem from the belief that you'd go when they came to your door?

Circumstances before, during and just after WWII were as different from now as night is to day.

Long live the Second Amendment. Those who would use it to take guns away from the populace are the only people who could help to facilitate what you describe.

156. True, but how independent were those people to begin with?
I'm not saying that Americans are all John Wayne standing at the gate of his ranch with a double barrel shotgun, but I do think that we would not go quietly with the types of things being suggested in this thread. It would take years of conditioning to set up the state of mind to be actually able to pull off a dictatorship. Now we may be heading in that direction, but it isn't going to happen in November.

Does anyone honestly believe that a gang of Blackwater mercs are going to pull it off? Do you know any real soldiers? Do you think THEY would point a gun at YOUR head for the BFEE. I sure as hell don't.

What's going to prevent any of these things from happening is getting this country back on course. That is reality and it is attainable. It's just going to take some time, sacrifice and hard work

86. Welcome to Bushvaria
DACHAU

Established in March 1933, the Dachau concentration camp was the first regular concentration camp established by the National Socialist (Nazi) government. Heinrich Himmler, in his capacity as police president of Munich, officially described the camp as "the first concentration camp for political prisoners." It was located on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory near the northeastern part of the town of Dachau, about 10 miles northwest of Munich in southern Germany.

During the first year, the camp held about 4,800 prisoners. Initially the internees consisted primarily of German Communists, Social Democrats, trade unionists, and other political opponents of the Nazi regime. Over time, other groups were also interned at Dachau, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma (Gypsies), homosexuals, as well as "asocials" and repeat criminal offenders. During the early years relatively few Jews were interned in Dachau and then usually because they belonged to one of the above groups or had completed prison sentences after being convicted for violating the Nuremberg Laws of 1935.

In early 1937, the SS, using prisoner labor, initiated construction of a large complex of buildings on the grounds of the original camp. Prisoners were forced to do this work, starting with the destruction of the old munitions factory, under terrible conditions. The construction was officially completed in mid-August 1938 and the camp remained essentially unchanged until 1945. Dachau thus remained in operation for the entire period of the Third Reich.

The number of Jewish prisoners at Dachau rose with the increased persecution of Jews and on November 10-11, 1938, in the aftermath of Kristallnacht, more than 10,000 Jewish men were interned there. (Most of men in this group were released after incarceration of a few weeks to a few months, many after proving they had made arrangements to emigrate from Germany.) MORE...

140. Agree
The "list" isn't really big news - it's Total Information Awareness. But there's nothing in the article to justify the huge, huge leap that they're planning to imprison 8 million Americans.

99. This is the program they tried to get Ashcroft to authorize while hospitalized
Edited on Tue May-20-08 11:59 AM by notadmblnd
the Program Gonzalez and Card tired circumventing Comey with. They went ahead with it, unauthorized.

"Minutes later, Gonzales and Card arrived with an envelope filled with the requisite forms. Ashcroft, even in his stupor, did not fall for their heavy-handed ploy. "I'm not the attorney general," Ashcroft told Bush's men. "There"—he pointed weakly to Comey—"is the attorney general." Gonzales and Card were furious, departing without even acknowledging Comey's presence in the room. The following day, the classified domestic spying program that Comey found so disturbing went forward at the demand of the White House—"without a signature from the Department of Justice attesting as to its legality," he testified.

What was the mysterious program that had so alarmed Comey? Political blogs buzzed for weeks with speculation. Though Comey testified that the program was subsequently readjusted to satisfy his concerns, one can't help wondering whether the unspecified alteration would satisfy constitutional experts, or even average citizens. Faced with push-back from his bosses at the White House, did he simply relent and accept a token concession? Two months after Comey's testimony to Congress, the New York Times reported a tantalizing detail: The program that prompted him "to threaten resignation involved computer searches through massive electronic databases." The larger mystery remained intact, however. "It is not known precisely why searching the databases, or data mining, raised such a furious legal debate," the article conceded.

Another clue came from a rather unexpected source: President Bush himself. Addressing the nation from the Oval Office in 2005 after the first disclosures of the NSA's warrantless electronic surveillance became public, Bush insisted that the spying program in question was reviewed "every 45 days" as part of planning to assess threats to "the continuity of our government."

Few Americans—professional journalists included—know anything about so-called Continuity of Government (COG) programs, so it's no surprise that the president's passing reference received almost no attention. COG resides in a nebulous legal realm, encompassing national emergency plans that would trigger the takeover of the country by extra-constitutional forces—and effectively suspend the republic. In short, it's a road map for martial law.

While Comey, who left the Department of Justice in 2005, has steadfastly refused to comment further on the matter, a number of former government employees and intelligence sources .....

There is a very real risk of another false flag event and marshal law. If McCain cannot narrow the margin to within 10 points (which he should be able to do, given the coming tsunami of what MCM calls "black" propaganda), and thus establish a plausibility of a surprise election day "win", then all bets are off and we will be in for a very bumpy ride.

There's that old Confucian curse: "May you live in interesting times!" Indeed -- and unfortunately -- we do.

187. Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans,
Rule by fear or rule by law?

SF Chronicle Submissions

"The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist."

- Winston Churchill, Nov. 21, 1943

Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of "an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."

Beginning in 1999, the government has entered into a series of single-bid contracts with Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) to build detention camps at undisclosed locations within the United States. The government has also contracted with several companies to build thousands of railcars, some reportedly equipped with shackles, ostensibly to transport detainees.
