FLOWERS FOR TED KENNEDY - the great liberal lion!
I don't have a good flower connection, but I am putting the idea out there -
WE NEED A FLOWER FUND DRIVE FOR TED KENNEDY!
The Great Liberal Lion is in need of our thoughts and prayers, and I think some flowers would be a great show of support.
We could send them to the hospital that he is at, or to the children's wing of the hospital, or anywhere that pretty flowers are needed.

I'm willing to help put it together. LETS ROLL!

Lets get this thing rolling

12. They're the Kennedys - they don't want for anything
I don't say that grudgingly - I am very fond of all of them. He will get the very best care that there is. His D-I-L is a doctor - a psychiatrist, actually.

Donations to Dem campaign, cancer research or other causes would probably please him no end.

4. If anyone ever stuck up for us, it's Ted Kennedy.
A visual show of appreciation would be so appropriate & would strengthen his recovery.

I'm all for it! Let's go!

5. I appreciate the thought and would send love to the man, but, he would probably say
send the money to worthy DEM candidates nationally and in a race near you.

Send money to DNC myself. Would think the Liberal Lion would rather chuckle about bulging war chests to help DEM candidates than be overwhelmed with flowers which just create more practical chores for those around him.

Let's roll and BANKROLL liberal candidates to help carry some of the awesome load this great man had shouldered for so very long.

Thanks Ted. You have taught us to fight and fight we will!

6. I like this idea. Is there a way we can make it clear that the donations are
Edited on Tue May-20-08 01:49 PM by tpsbmam
in his honor? It'd be nice if there was a centralized way for him to see how much is contributed in his name/honor.

9. Don't know, but if a shit load of cash came into DEM coffers this week
I think the message would be pretty damned clear. Just to make sure, we could flood newspapers with LTTE suggesting others pay tribute to the good Senator by doing the same.

Make Ted laugh that wonderful laugh. Make sure the DEMS mop the floor with the GOP criminal enablers!

13. I think we need a personal gesture to him
It doesn't have to be an expensive gesture, but one that shows him that he is loved and respected. If the donations go to his causes, there should at least be a giant-sized card sent to him that expresses our personal feelings, one that expresses in words how much he means to us.

15. Earlier on ...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3314529

I'd suggested a teddy bear with a DU t-shirt. Someone else suggested making a contribution. I'm not at all set up to handle the task, so I'll keep checking in here.

16. He has everything he needs. Here's an idea.... how ' bout
giving the money to a GOOD cause, to help poor folk, in his name?

I'm sure he would appreciate that.

He's not likely to even *see* flowers... there will be so many, and will be sent to other places.

There are so many people with so many needs.... but he's not one of them.

17. Go to the Senator's web site....
he has many great ideas for ways we can support him AND his life's work.

on 5/8/08 he issued a press release on cancer research.

how about donating to a charity that helps the poor?

Supporting war veterans who are overlooked and undersupported by our government

All causes near and dear to the Senator.

But, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the OP wants what makes most sense.

23. I may belong to a group but often function
as an individual.

So, think I may make a contribution to one in Ted's name.

In my experience, those groups send a donor notice to an individual - and I'm willing to bet they all know how to reach him.

I agree with others who've posted - Ted doesn't need flowers - there will be plenty of those.

I'd rather enrich his legacy than a florist.

There is a thread on here about a brain cancer center that has a 5 star rating and is based in Massachusetts.

but no. He doesn't need flowers.

Somebody else suggested a charitable donation to a brain cancer research fund - that idea makes sense.

22. OK DU. I will contact Teddy's Chief of Staff
"The bloggers at Democraticunderground would like to show their appreciation for Senator Kennedy. We have been thinking of sending roses (either to the Senator or to another place like a Children's Hospital or AIDS Hospice,... etc) or making a contribution to a cause that the Senator is fond of. Please talk to Senator Kennedy and ask him how the blog-o-sphere can show their appreciation for the Great Liberal Lion.
Thanks in advance,
Mdmc

26. im so glad someone thought of this, count me in!
I would really like to do this. And I agree 100% that not only does he not really NEED anything, but it would mean the most to him if we supported a cause that he has championed.

Can anyone explain how we would organize it so that he knew that ALL our donations total was our gesture of support? And also if we had a card? How would that work?

27. i would like him to get some flowers still
it's not really about him needing it, but about us and what he means to us. maybe most of the money for charity in his name, but a small amount of it going towards some flowers for him along with a card about how much we love and appreciate him.
