Anyone here remember a movie called "Americathon" made several years ago.
It was about America running out of gas.
,
It was silly to watch but with the price of gas now, maybe not so silly.

I think the movie had John Ritter in it.

1. Americathon
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078766

In the not too distant future, the United States government is virtually bankrupt and in danger of being foreclosed on by a group of Native Americans, now owners of the massive Nike Corporation. A desperate President decides to make a last-ditch effort to save the country... by raising money with a telethon!

The movie was silly but sort of correct.

2. Oh my...that movie...(John Ritter...loved the man)...
is the answer to one of my posts in The Lounge. :)

Last gallon of gasoline in the United States...
and the Native Americans (Canadian Americans) have all the money..
and some people sleep in their big cars...sorta like what might be a trailer park..
and John Ritter is the President of the Western United States.

Yes, it is sorta silly...but..makes you think and all.

Tikki
p.s. Elvis Costello sings "Crawling to the U.S.A." in the movie.:)

4. John Ritter was president in the movie.
Maybe all these big SUVs might come in handy.

5. President Chet Roosevelt
The name of Ritter's idiot character elected largely due to being related to former Presidents. Life imitates art or vice versa.

6. Written by Phil Proctor and Peter Bergman -- half of Firesign Theatre.

David Ossman and Phil Austin being the other half.

There haven't been books written about them, but there should be.

13. Another movie that is fun to watch is My Fellow Americans.
I saw that one on a bus trip to Austin.

That movie is about two former Presidents on the run from the government.

It is really funny.

14. Ya know, I've always liked Lemmon and Garner
but I never saw that one either. Ackroyd has always been my favorite SNL alum.

Lauren Bacall and Sela Ward are also in that movie.

11. Oh my, I do recall it.
I saw the movie, and also had a book based on the movie -- the book had screenshots of the movie, with dialogue in word balloons, so it was like a comic book.

Ritter as Chet Roosevelt, and Harvey Korman as the emcee. I think even Meat Loaf had a part as a daredevil performer.

Also, the Arabs and Israelis had patched up their differences and formed the United Hebrab Republic.

Yeah, I read that photo-novelization a lot.
