ABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: Sen. John McCain rejected the endorsement of a second controversial pastor Thursday, saying there is no place for the Rev. Rod Parsley’s comments about Islam.

“I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement,” McCain said in a statement.

The rejection of Parsley’s endorsement comes several hours after McCain rejected the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee, who made controversial comments about the Holocaust and Catholics.

I know it is fashionable on DU to mindlessly disparage political opponents, but have you ever considered that a strong and effective opposition, whether it be Dem or Repub is the greatest safeguard of your country?

Most of the time I let it go whoosh, over the head, but as you have reminded me, there are reasonable people on DU despite outward appearances.

I've never set foot in GDP, it's not my battle - but I reckon we are seeing much more of the asinine insults here is GD, which by definition, is the flagship forum of DU. I'm not only worried about the blind, mob mentality but the fact that by becoming parodies of the conservative-hating lefty, DU itself becomes a place of ridicule.

Maybe they are ready for the disconnect. It's pretty much been rapture-land under the bush regime and while they have all their freaky, religious needs met, I bet a lot of them are hurting from food prices, petrol, housing etc

That's why I don't think it would take much to turn the, shall we say, more godly (than you and I!) element of your country around to support someone who repudiates the more radical and evangelical pastors.

Call it hypocrisy, whatever you like, but these people vote, and each one of their votes counts as much as yours does. Watch carefully what McCain's platform may be. It may be advantageous to him to repudiate the most extreme fundies. Who knows?
