Condi *HEARTS* torture
Rice defends post 9/11 interrogation techniques

By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press WriterFri May 23, 1:47 AM ET

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Thursday defended tough interrogation techniques for terrorism suspects approved by the Bush administration in the wake of 9/11, saying they were necessary to protect America from new attacks.

In her most extensive public comments about how the administration dealt with detainee interrogations in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, and the anthrax attacks that followed, Rice insisted the methods of questioning complied with both U.S. law and treaty obligations.

But she acknowledged that those rules had since changed and that the United States was a "different place" then, adding that the administration's top priority at the time had been preventing new attacks and not necessarily observing fine legal points...http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080523/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/rice_waterboarding

1. "It is a different America"
from the above article:
"I don't want anyone to believe that even when we were in that different place that we failed to ask the question: 'Are we living up to our laws and to our treaty obligations?' We asked the questions even then, but it is a different America now than what has been and gone."

It is different because YOU and your craven, cowardly criminals have MADE it so. In "defending" this country you have stripped it of precisely what made it worth saving.

9. I'd like the old America back again.
The one before Columbus landed, in particular.

12. "what has been and gone"
It saddens me beyond measure to see how lightly she refers to a nation of laws (however imperfectly observed)that has died without a funeral. Her corrupt gang's part in all of this is justified by this pitiful rationalization.

8. God, I HATE these euphemisms for torture
"tough interrogation techniques" BULLSHIT!

JUST ONCE I'd like to see that word "torture" in a mainstream news report.

You can bet your ass if the same things were done to an American, there'd be a ten-point, bolded headline with an exclamtion point - "TORTURE!"

:puke:

11. Failure To Impeach For Torture Is "Electing" McCain (reelecting bushcheneyism)
Each day that passes confirms the torture as "America's Shame" and not what it should be -- the war crimes of a never-elected, never-legitimate rogue regime. DC Dems "own the issue" too by their failure to act in the only way they can. It only helps McCain.

But it needn't be. Impeachment is the only thing that sufficiently taps into the historic Anti-Bushcheney sentiment of the public. It's the only thing that provides the "optics" of the Dems as a clear alternative -- as capable of acting, instead of dithering.

And sorry "race fans," if Hillabama were going to make it "unstealable" in November, we'd be seeing it already in polls. It's not there and it's not coming. Without impeachment, McCain's euphemedia free-ride and even a minimal level election theft will continue the bushcheney regime.

Yes, I said continue. Make no mistake, any and all Reps remain under the thumb of cheney(ism/ists) -- he don't need no stinking "I'm The Veep" badge -- his power is very real, in the real world, among the Republican locksteppers.

Only impeachment has the potential to end this nightmare and reunite our once-great nation.
