The tornado, which was reported as an F3 with winds in excess of 130 mph, struck the community of 18,000 from the southeast while traveling in a northwesterly direction. ... The path of the tornado took it from Promontory Park, southeast of Windsor, through the town’s industrial park on the east side, through the Governor’s Farm and Cornerstone neighbors, over Windsor Town Hall, over the central downtown district along Main Street, and then turned north following Colorado Highway 257 for about a mile. Several more rural residents were damaged by the twister before it took a final turn to the northwest and moved toward Fort Collins.
