San Diego County Workers may be excused from performing same-sex weddings
This makes me sick! Coddling the fundies, allowing them to act unprofessionally because something might offend their delicate sensibilites.

It's like the pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control on the morning-after pill because it goes against their beliefs. Too fucking bad--do your fucking job or find another one that doesn't compromise you.

Example: I am a vegetarian, been one for over 30 years. At my job for the airlines, I check in moose and deer hunters, who have big guns that blow away God's creatures. I can guarantee if I refused to help those hunters, I would be fired before I could blink. And so I should be--most adults understand how to put away their personal sensibilites to act in a professional manner.

Most adults except fundie Xians, it seems!

1. Then they shouldn't have their jobs...if part of their duty is to marry
couples and they don't then they should find another job...

6. they're public employees
so yes they should have to officiate any legal marriage ceremony. But priests and other clergy should be able to opt out of marrying anyone they object to.

3. Probably not...although 40 years ago I bet they could've!
The whole point is: why would a supervisor coddle an employee who says their "Personal principles" interfere with their ability to perform their duties??? And why is it only those "personal principles" that are compatible with fundie judgementalness and hate-mongering???

I guess the pharmacy analogy isn't the best because drugstores are private corporations, and in some of these scary small towns, the owners are probably the biggests fundies of all. I bet in S.Dakota no one can get the morning-after pill these days!

But a county clerk is a state employee--ie that person works for We the People and is supposed to uphold Supreme Court rulings. Their position just outrageous and hateful to me!

4. If by "excused" they mean "get their asses fired" then I'm all for it.
But I bet I'm misinterpreting this. :eyes:
