GM Foods the Problem, Not the Solution
In this time of global food crisis GMOs are being touted as the great saviour by the AgBiotech industry,Bushco via USAid, and even Senator Joe Biden Is jumping on the bandwagon of *agricultural research,* often a euphemism for GMO subsidies. I don't know if that is what Biden meant, but I intend to find out. If any of y'al know I would appreciate a 411. Thanks.

ENVIRONMENT: GM Foods the Problem, Not the Solution

By Julio Godoy

BONN, May 23 (IPS) - The food crisis has prompted some looks towards genetically modified food production as a solution. That in turn has led to stronger warnings over the consequences of such food for health and the environment.

These concerns have been raised in Bonn again as more than 3,000 delegates from 147 countries met for the UN conference on biosafety. The conference has sought to ensure safe use of modern biotechnology.

Feeding the debate, scientists, farmers and environmental activists in many countries continue to warn that genetically modified agriculture presents a risk, and not a contribution, to food production.

In France, organic farmers are complaining that genetically modified (GM) plants are poisoning their plantations. Julien and Christian Veillat, two farmers who grow organic maize in the Breton locality of Villiers-en-Plaine some 400 kilometres west of Paris, say their fields have been contaminated with GM maize, even though the nearest GM crops field is 35 kilometres away.

The contamination was established during a routine analysis late in April by an organic agriculture cooperative near the Veillats' village. Following the detection, the organic maize was diverted for use as cattle fodder.

1. GMO allows them to control food supply
"We have the patent- and your crops have our signature. We are therefore suing you."

4. Genetic Littering.
Since pollen blows in the wind, and since they are claiming ownership over the genes in the pollen, then why aren't they held financially responsible for "genetic littering"?

Oh, right, corporations take no responsibilities, unless forced. They have no social or group consciousness, except the singular one of maximizing their revenue stream: others' financial impacts, that their genetic littering may cause, are never their responsibility.

From OP's link:
all ... farmers whose plantations are contaminated should be paid indemnities

7. actually, they take the exact opposite approach . . .
GM seed companies -- notably Monsanto -- have actually sued farmers whose crops have been contaminated by their frankenseeds, claiming that because their patented seeds now grow in the farmers' fields, those farmers have to pay royalties or face legal consequences . . . talk about balls . . .

5. Genetically Engineered Crops May Produce Herbicide Inside Our Intestines
This is most scary, but you will not hear it mentioned on M$M

http://www.responsibletechnology.org/utility/showArticle/?objectID=505

Look at the date on the article... April 2006.

If that isn't scary enough, but it turns out that the Toxicity of BT Corn was based on toxins produced from the Bacteria, not the toxins produced by the BT Plant that contained the Bacterial gene which generates the toxin. The shills ad USDA and FDA are all paid off Corporate cronies that allowed this to occur, and they need to be flushed out.

Is Your Colon Roundup Ready? Ask Monsanto!

6. I'd like to see FREE Testing of any plant for GMO traits provided on demand.
Of course, that would destroy Monsanto.
