"Negative Recs": is this coming?
I briefly glanced at someone discussing this here. Rec'ing threads DOWN. Is this an idea actually being considered? Say it ain't so, joe! (or Skinner)!

6. I think it's a very bad idea. We have enough negativity in our lives, why should we have visually
more on DU?

7. At that point you can just retitle this cauderwelsh
Mediocrity & Conformity.

Let the people vote for what they like, and comment on what they don't like. That makes a lively forum.

12. Yeah, that experiment to block certain people from one's threads didn't work
same shit would happen again.

14. Actually, I disagree...
or I don't know. Since that experiment lasted like, a day, we'll never know how it would have gone.

I think it was in principle a good idea for keeping threads on topic and able to develop in peace, without troll-like attacks and silly "diagonal" exchanges. It was advantageous for minority opinions.

But voting down & up would turn every single thread into a popularity contest. Very messed up.

11. As I said upthread, I briefly glanced it in a thread I was reading.
This may just be so much smoke a poster was putting out--but I thought I'd fact check it.

I would not care too much for that kind of scheme--Slashdot has turned into a regular crap-hole "cult of personality" because of it. People "mod-down" because of the ideology of a post, not the content or insightfulness there too much.

man what a train wreck. It was like a train wreck and a huge car accident and a couple of jack knifed 18 wheelers thrown in.

15. I hope so.
There are a few threads here that get recommended when they have no business being recommended.

16. I think it is the ability to vote a thread 'bad' - would probably not offset 'good'
Just another way to find things :)
