Did You all know the Stone of Destiny is now in Scotland?
Some people take this bit of Indiana Jonesy stuff very seriously. Some say it came from the holy land where it went to Ireland when Ireland was in its Golden Age. There it was used for the coronation of kings. From there, the Scots took it. (I don't think it left by peaceful measures.) And then England took it from the Scots, and in 1996, it was returned to Scotland. Why it's so intriguing is, that the myth is that he who sits upon the stone (generally the stone is placed under the chair (throne)), rules the world.

Anyone ever heard of it? I mean, beyond what is written in wiki?

2. it's called the Stone of Scone
"Traditionally, it is supposed to be the pillow stone said to have been used by the Biblical Jacob. According to one legend, it was the Coronation Stone of the early Dál Riata Gaels when they lived in Ireland, which they brought with them when settling Caledonia. Another legend holds that the stone was actually the travelling altar used by St Columba in his missionary activities throughout what is now Scotland. Certainly, since the time of Kenneth Mac Alpin, the first King of Scots, at around 847, Scottish monarchs were seated upon the stone during their coronation ceremony. At this time the stone was situated at Scone, a few miles north of Perth."

3. I know it's been a point of contention between Scotland and England for centuries...
...and I've thought of it as nothing but silliness.;)

However, this is the kind of thing that cultist like to surround their beliefs around, and I was wondering if such a cult-following exists?

7. I've heard of that. But it's not the stone of destiny I'm most familiar with.
That would be the stone Mary gave the Magi after they preformed the Navjote (nativity.) Which is a Mazdian or Zoroastrian induction ceremoney. It was from that stone a flame lept up and warned the Magi not to return to the King and take a different way home. The Magus Balthazar who took the stone back to Ethiopia with him. In Ethiopia the flame lept up from the stone once again and carved a church out of rock. That church has recently been uncovered. But that Stone is still in Ethiopia with the Ark of the Covanant. It's not known for sure what kind of stone it was. But the speculation is that it was the dried placenta from Jesus' birth.

8. Not the same stone then. This stone is most definitely in Scotland.
It's also too large to be a placenta.

10. True. No earthly King could touch our stone and live.
More or less set upon it.

11. I've seen it. It looks utterly ordinary.
It was on display in Edinburgh castle. A very nice museum, by the way, with a lot of information. However the stone itself is just a big rock. I looked and looked but didn't see any special markings or anything extraordinary. It's funny how a mere rock gets imbued with so much folklore that it becomes "special."

13. The myth is that it's the stone Jacob used as a pillow
when he dreamt about a ladder leading to heaven. So it would need to look a bit ordinary - that was just a stone he found lying around. It's a very convenient myth to copy, though
