Russian Communist party calls for the new Indiana Jones film ban for distorting history
MAYbe there's something in it after all, hehe...

SNIP, BBC News:

St Petersburg Communist Party chief Sergei Malinkovich told the Reuters news agency it was "rubbish".
"Why should we agree to that sort of lie and let the West trick our youth?"
He said many Russian cinemagoers were teenagers who would be "completely unaware of what happened in 1957", when the film is set.
"They will go to the cinema and will be sure that in 1957 we made trouble for the United States and almost started a nuclear war.
"It's rubbish... In 1957 the communists did not run with crystal skulls throughout the US."

1. It's got a great anti-capitalist message. The CP should just make do.
"The communists did not run with crystal skulls throughout the U.S."

3. Well, they can make their own movies any way they want.
:eyes:

(It's always better to be accurate, but still, do they know what the word "fiction" means? Where the heck is Mr. Rogers when we need him?!)

5. Well historically, there was no Indiana Jones either
I'd like to sue over that as I had planned to marry him.

Honestly, the things people will fixate on in a world full of very REAL problems!

I don't remember that plot line running through the new movie, and I just saw it yesterday.

7. Did you enjoy it?
The reviews have been rough. I love this series of films, though, and when critics are nasty that usually means I'm going to like it.

9. I thought it was great.
Then again I an a huge fan of the original Indy Trilogy, so I am biased. But yes, I would highly reccomend it to anyone who enjoyed the original films.

11. Thanks!
I'm still trying to get over the fact that it's been 19 years since the last one. I watched the trilogy twice on Sci-Fi last week and still enjoyed the hell out of every minute. The escapism did me good.

:hi:

10. What's next?
Are the germans going to say that Hitler never sought the Holy Grail, or the Ark of the Covenant?

Or is the Indian government going to freak out and say that there was never a cannibalistic sect who's leader was a master of mind control?

Or is the US going to complain that they don't really have a massive warehouse where they hide top secret relics, ala Raiders of the Lost Ark.

12. and that whole thing with the Nazis and the Ark?
that was NOT fantasy? Why didn't the neo-Nazis complain about that? And if the communists in Russia are SOOOO worried about history they might want to check themselves before someone gets a hold of their propaganda pieces...

Get a clue guys...it's called fiction!

I'm sure many in Russia are losing sleep over a stupid action/adventure movie... I'm positively sure.

20. The quote is genuine, ditto the source. Just saw the interview clip
on UK TV News.

That a Russian Communist Party official is actually prepared to say this stuff in public is an indictment on the state of Russian realpolitik.

Conspiracies about the USA and its cult figures are still big business in Russia today.

21. Moscow Times today:
St. Petersburg communists are campaigning against the new Indiana Jones movie, complaining that its portrayal of the Russian villains is insulting and historically inaccurate.

"We are really outraged by this film, which has nothing to do with reality," Veronika Klinovitskaya, a spokeswoman for the Communists of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, said by telephone Friday.

..............................

The communist group, which is not affiliated with the official Communist Party, posted a statement on its web site Thursday calling the film "a belch of the Cold War" and a "vile lampoon."
